    Well... today is my turn!

2 dead Optima D34 yellow tops.

3.5 years old and neither one can retain a charge.

    SSB for me!

    Expensive clockwork.

Mentioned it to my lad - his D2 has 2 Yellowtops in it.
He’s had it parked up for a few months and had a trickle charger on it.

Apparently his both bulged and failed a few months ago.

His are 2 months younger than mine...

I would still talk to them. I have bought my last 3 batteries through Goodchild Enterprises Cockburn Central. But ask to talk to a specialist not the sales team.
I have gone down the path of SSB batteries x 2 in my Defender and 1 in Caravan - HVT86D 130AH & 1000CCA, but in a Defender. There will be one that will fit.
Really good to deal with and not stupid prices.

Clearly the negative terminals were manufactured poorly, either too thin or with a bad seal.

Hi folks and while I am still a fan of the yellowtops, there does seem to be a problem.

To that end, when someone gets an SSB battery and gets a chance to discharge it down to around 20% SoC or 11.58v, if you are set up to, can you measure the charging current the SSB will draw while charging from your D3 or D4 alternator while driving.

The reason I ask, is that one of the HUGE advantages of using a Yellowtop is that it will take ALL the surplus output of the alternator, while charging from a low state.

This is something very few other batteries can do.

So my SSB HVT50D batteries have arrived.
Great news, I was hoping and I was right, that the terminal posts are bolt on versions.

So I can remove the posts and bolt the cables directly to the battery without clamps.

This makes them marginally lower than the D34s which is even better.

    Hopefully install them this weekend.
