Bluetooth music streaming added to my D4

    Hi all,

The BT in my 2011 D4 has never worked properly despite Land Rover having a couple of goes at fixing it. Also being the poverty pack I couldn’t stream music to the car over BT. I case anyone is keen to have a go this is what I came up with.

Went to JBHiFi and bought a Logitech Bluetooth audio adaptor for about $30 and a spare USB cable. Unfortunately the adaptor is powered by a wall wart 240v power supply but the actual unit runs on 5v. Cut the chord coming off the wall wart and worked out the positive and negative leads with a multimeter, then chopped the spare USB cable I bought and spliced the power cable so it terminated in a USB cable after a couple of minutes soldering.

So now I can plug the audio adaptor into a cig USB charger and I can power the unit which hides in my centre console. The audio out from the adaptor goes into the aux in for the car. Once you pair the phone to the adaptor the music streaming sound quality from your phone is superb. If a phone call comes in you can answer the call on your phone and have the call audio come thru the car speakers.

    Cheers
    Mike

I had a 2011 TDV6 base spec but not to my knowledge did it have bluetooth audio, only phone connectivity was supported. I'm surprised you say Land Rover had a go at fixing this?

Just re-read the post, I misunderstood. Bluetooth phone was not working for you.

That’s correct, whenever I’m on a phone call the other party could barely hear me so I came up with this to get around that and also stream music.

    cheers

Sounds like a good solution, but I would think you'd need the phone in a cradle up in view as you would be using the phone's microphone?

    G’day Ron,

Yes I have my phone sitting in a cradle and it uses the phones mic when I am on a call, has worked out to be a cheap solution to my BT issues that haven’t been able to be fixed my Land Rover. They have already replaced the media unit when the car was under warranty but the terrible phone call quality remained.

Unfortunately this all works great only when I have Aux selected on the radio, if I’m listening to the radio then I use the iphones speaker when calls come in. I tend to be streaming my own music/podcasts mainly so for me it seems to work pretty well.

    Cheers

I did look at ones like you linked Eddy and no reason why it shouldn’t work. I balked at it as it’s battery powered and wanted something that “plugs in”.
