Thanks... so many great replies which is a huge help. I have time so yes I’ll make a short list based on this discussion and wait! Probably the povo pack version Still need to sell my Citroen C5 wagon first, so at least I’m used to buying niche...
If the budget stretches going for whatever 2014 + you can. A few decent upgrades not least of which is 8 speed and grill/ headlight package and a few other tweaks. Given the SD and TD are identical except tune I would place far more emphasis on the stock add ons as nearly no two discoveries are alike. And you can easily have it remapped. These things are over engineered in the cooling department so that won’t factor at all.
The TDV6 of mine has buckets of power though more is always better I guess.
Perhaps write a list of deal breaking items and stick too it as much as possible. Mine was short. 2014, white, black interior, rear e diff lock. Anything else was a bonus. In this case upgraded sound and snorkel, mats, dual battery etc. it still Took 4 months for one to appear. All in all I bloody love driving it.
Plenty of info in these forums and YouTube going forward so enjoy.
cheers

What updates came in 2014? I have a 2013 HSE SD 8 speed and thought it had them all except the turbo pipe, is there anything else I should be updating?
Discovery 1 4.6, true trac front and rear, superior engineering arms, old tourer now bush toy
Discovery 4 3.0 HSE MY13 ECB Bull bar, winch, spot lights, aux fuel tank, Kaymar rear bar, duel wheel carriers, 18 tuff ant wheels 265/65/18 BFG KO2's for play
So no mechanical or electrical improvements worth worrying about, couldn't care less about cosmetic changes

The turbo drain pipe was upgraded at some stage, my second turbo would fill with oil when coasting along not using it, then when you did use the skinny pedal it would do a James Bond and billow a massive cloud of white smoke when the second turbo kicked in. According to the experts it does no damage but its not a good look...
A better designed drain pipe stops the oil build up

I adjusted my budget to what i wanted to do in the vehicle touring/weekend trip wise. If this is going to be a giant family wagon that never leaves the tarmac, not much of the below matters. Unless you live in Canberra, with it's abnormally large animal strike rate especially considering it's tiny population, i'd be getting a bull bar there.
Mostly mention this because your coming from a car. Keep in mind what extras such as bull bar ($2800 painted and fitted) you plan on adding. I see a white one on carsales and it's the same price as ones without it, and $2800 is a lot of money if you're topping out your budget at $47k-$50k and feel a bull bar is important.
If you have to buy outside dealer warranty (which i'm assuming you do), I would be going through a reputable dealer, not private.
I spent $15k on accessories after i purchased it, which is extreme as there was nothing left to do and not everyone has to, but worth considering. A decent set of AT tyres with 18" TuffAnt wheels will set you back around $2000, worth noting if you plan on doing any of the long corrugated tracks and off-roading (especially important if anything you like has > 19" wheels on it currently).
