If I had enough $ to not worry about fuel prices, there's a D4 V8 in your year range which are the pick of the bunch, assuming aforementioned! Pretty hard to come by, they have every option included too.

When we bought ours I started with the lower end budget, then realised I wanted a 8 speed, then SD so up went the $$ then higher km require the expensive repaires so save on purchase spend later and harder to find one with the maintenance I wanted not LR specified.
We found one with 30,000km, serviced every year with @ 10,000km, plus all the mods I wanted already done ( see sig. ) The only thing I bought was LLAMS and 6xtuff ant and tires so spent an extra 3500.
Needless to say the budget got smashed and we spent double what I originally planned, product is remembered way longer than price and we have an awesome kitted up D4
SDV6 (SE or HSE) for me, if $ was no option then RR V8 diesel. The TD6 is getting on a bit...
SDV6, no question
Ah yes I see you were referring to Range Rover V8 diesel. Nice looking car and there are a couple for sale which seem really cheap for the original price! I also think they look great. But would I be right in thinking that for long distance touring in Australia I might be setting myself up trouble if anything needs repairing. i.e. harder to work on than a D4? Or not... the D4's are holding their prices better than I expected.
I've had a 2012 Range Rover 4.4 V8 diesel and now a 2016 SDv6 D4. We've used both for long distance touring, towing a 2 ton camper trailer. Nothing beats the full fat RR for comfort, endless grunt and sheer luxury, but the D4 is no slouch in those departments either. And it's better than the RR in terms of load capacity and after market add-ons. (Virtually nothing available for the RR. And minimum wheel size is 20 inches, which is pretty limiting. Having said that, if we weren't doing off road touring, I'd kill to have that RR back:)
As for remote area repairs, there isn't much difference. Theyre cut from the same cloth. Most faults you can find and clear with the help of a GAP IID tool.
For what it’s worth..
I have the 2011 D4 2.7L and have recently upgraded from a 2T caravan to a 3T caravan and while I’m sure the 3L is even better I don’t really notice the van on the back or feel under powered so I’d put the 3L in the ‘nice to have’ category not the ‘must have’.
Thankfully I just seem to have had the most common errors:
Lower control arm bushes
Air compressor
intercooler pipe split
high pressure fuel pump
tail gate actuator
alternator
The OP is looking at 2013-2015 models, the TDV6 & SDV6 are mechanically the same 3.0 V6 engine. The difference is the ECU tune, 155Kw & 520Nm for the TDV6 and 183Kw & 600Nm for the SDV6.
A TDV6 can be tuned (Remapped) to the same level as a SDV6.
SDV6 models will cost more as they will be SE or HSE trim levels.
