I also have a MY13 SDV6 fitted with 19" original alloy wheels. Tyres are MAXXIS 980LT and despite the tread looking a bit shallow from new, they have now done over 30,000 km towing an off-road van on all manner of roads and tracks, e.g. Cape York, Lawn Hill, Wolf Creek Crater, Cameron Corner. Their performance has been great and no damage to date. I've not done any serious sand travelling, so can't speak about that, but hard and flinty surfaces and loose, very coarse, gravel have been no bother. Sealed wet roads are no bother, but they are a little noisier than original Goodyear tyres.

I recently put on the new Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus after acquring some second hand Discovery 4 19” wheels through Gumtree for $950. Very happy with the A/T construction and on-road performance.

    Maxxis 980 LT value

Just done a long trip over some rough roads (Skull Springs Rd for example) and they came through without any cuts or chips.
Not sure yet about their ability on sand but that will come soon.

I am on my second set of Cooper LTZ 19 inch on my Disco 4. Nice looking tyre with reasonable off road performance and low road noise however I dont believe they are good value as only getting 45 to 50,000 kms out of a set of five on regular rotation. Needing to replace all including the spare and interested to know more about the maxxis 980 LT. As a true performance test any idea what kms you could expect out of a set of four on regular rotation (without rotating the spare) ?

Has anyone tried a few different brands in the 19 inch and got an opinion?

Also any tips on best dealers on the Sunshine Coast. I have been going to Sugar Road Tyre and mechanical super happy with the service however not sure if they carry all brands

My Hankooks are still going at 75,000km. Probably got another 10,000km left in them, possibly more over summer.

45-50,000 km out of a set of tires is woeful, I get that out of muddies on the D1 that get absolutely smashed by pressures and environment and then get rid of them with half the tread left. Something like Crapper Zeon should be heaps more, they are on my 19's from the previous owner and wear quicker than a pair of thongs on a hot day and the side wall is like tissue paper...

Went out yesterday for a wander and tried some sand hill climbing, a first since fitting the 980LTs to the D4. Oh dear. Great generally but the vehicle bottomed out on each hill as they had some deep ruts and I haven't put an extended lift on yet with the GAP tool. With the size of the ruts I'm not sure it would have changed things anyway.
Also the first time I've used the chicken tracks......
Apart from that they're working out to be a good tyre.
