More often the TC gets stuck in low range, for which the fix is usually just an oil change and recalibration.
G'Day Guys..
After 12-18 months or so of pretending I enjoyed trouble free motoring... The Land Rover Bug bit hard again and I'm the Owner of a 2005 D3 Diesel 320,000km with 90,000km Old Engine (According to Receipts).
Purchased Site Unseen from Online Auction House with ARB Front Bar, Safari Snorkle, Kaymar Rear Bar and Wheel Carrier etc.. Very Cheaply.
As many of you know I'm no newbie with these delightful vehicles, I completed one of the first Territory TDV6 Conversions etc on other cars I owned.
Currently this vehicle hasn't had too many dramas... Driving back from the Auctions I had some weird and wonderful Electrical Gremlins which I assumed were Low Battery Issues.
Subsequently Charging the Main and AUX Battery seems to have resolved these.
2 Issues remain:
1) Parking Brake Fault
I'm assuming its been disabled manually by pulling the wire... I'll inspect the Rear Pads etc and make the Adjustments as per the Brake Bible and Rewind the Gears etc and see if I can resolve that one..
2) Range Change Unavailable and Special Functions Unavailable.
So I can't select Low/High Range.. (Car is in High Range Currently). I've checked Fuse 24 for the Transfer Case and that seems fine (replaced it anyway). I've subsequently read some horror stories about Transfer Case ECU and Water Seepages etc behind the Battery and I guess that's my next port of call unless someone has had some other experiences in this regard?
Interesting Air Suspension Control is all operational, I can go from Low to Standard to High with no issues.
Look forward to hearing from you and getting back into the LR3 Community.

Love your new beast. Pics thanks.
LED brake lights are one of my big tips. My former 2005 D3 was sulked badly and highly inconstantly with any globe blowing. LED globes fixed that for me. Sounds like you might have saved a few pennies allowing a margin for fixing the minor issues which you have.
Fairly certain the Transfer Case ECU is going to be the cause of my issues.
The Plastic Container it was in wasn't sealed up... and the connector is covered it dried up mud/gunk etc..
Not Certain exactly how the box is supposed to seal up.
Anyhow I've given the connector a clean... and the ECU a clean and I'll let them sit for a while and see if they can be resurrected.
If not probably time for another off Ebay UK.

Welcome Back
i was looking at doing something similar but got put off by the crazy bidding at the end of the auctions . Hopefully yours is some simple fixes.
i ended up getting a RRC in the end but we still have our D3 so sort of the best of both worlds.
look forward to seeing how you go .
Cheers Ean
Same issue occurring still after the clean... I'd say the ECU is all shorted/dead/cactus on the inside.
On the upside it still works fine in High Range Only so I'm not overly concerned.
I'll order the replacement ECU ex UK on Ebay and see if that resolves the issue.
The bottom of the box is not sealed on any D4 or D3 so you need to be careful in deep water or when cleaning under the engine bay. GOE's book tells you how to temporarily seal the underside the TC ECU box for a trip where deep water might be encountered. I have had water over the bonnet for a few seconds at Cape York but the engine bay stayed dry due to the bonnet seals etc. That won't work for longer crossings, however.
And known to be damaged with over enthusiastic high pressure engine bay washing
Usually when the TCCU develops faults it fails to pass HS canbus messages from the ecus further along the bus, including the suspension ecu. The TCCU is a HS canbus gateway that isolates the engine, brake and gearbox ecus from all the others so if it fails then there will usually be lots of communication faults logged for all the modules that can't communicate with the others that they expect to. Hence I doubt that the TCCU is damaged and re-calibrating the TC motor easy to do with a diagnostic tool so why not try it first.

Resolved the Issue with the Parking Brake Today.
I purchased a MaxiDas DS808 Scan Tool off Ebay (I wanted something with most of the Land Rover Functions but also something to work with other vehicles too).
Code for Parking Brake ended up being U2002 - Switch Issue.
Ended up researching and found posts about issues with the Loom etc...
Got the Car on the Jack and ended up discovering the Connector for the Electronic Park Brake under the Left Hand Side Wheel Arch was partially unplugged because the Plugs/Connections were damaged/sheared off.
3/4 Well Placed Cable Ties have secured that up nicely.. I'll see how that goes longer term... if its an issue I guess I'll need to replace that connector somehow.
