Wardy 1, it's a no brainer, just do it. A word of warning though, towing gets very boring. No worrying about torque converter lock up or whether to use 3rd locked or 4th unlocked etc. Just stick it in Sport, set the cruise control & sit back.

I towed with a TD5 D2 before purchasing albeit a new MY15 TDV6 D4 with an E-Diff. The vehicle I bought was surplus stock so I had no say in what options were fitted.

I believe that the E-Diff comes with strengthened transmission components in the rear diff & is therefore better suited to towing duties. The driver has no control over the locking of the diff so it would be hard to compare with/without. What I can tell you though is that on a steep gravel incline, van in tow, it locks when you pull away too enthusiastically & all spin is prevented.
