Question Awning directly to D4 rails?

    Hi all,

I've done a bunch of searching, and whilst the question has been asked previously, I can't find any answers on it...

I want to install an awning onto the factory roof rails - the ones that run front to back. I have the short variety, that stop at the roofline 'hump'. I have read these may be a standard sizing, T-Rack or T-Rail or something?

In any case, has anyone mounted an awning using an L bracket or similar directly to the rails? How did it go? I'm interested in clearance to the car, and if there is any concern about strength of the rails, given the potential leverage?

My plan it to take it off when we don't need it, and i don't really want to also buy a full blown roof rack/cage just to attach a simple little awning!

If it was me I'd fit the cross bars as the wind flow on just the front - rear rail bay cause distortion and over stress it.

I hav eht LR cross bars and have fitted a very neat install on these with bolt heads captured within the channel. No drilling holes.
    Just my thoughts anyway

Yep , too much leverage for a single mounting point. I just re-used my old rhino bars with some legs that fit the short rails and bob's my gender neutral special person.

Thanks guys - looks like i'll dust off the old OEM racks for the summer. I took them off so my 3t brick would be more aerodynamic :P

That's a solid looking awning loanie - how wide is that one?

2.5m x 2.5m, figured i'd get something worth sitting under. Also got a pair side walls which work well when swagging it.
