Navigation update on imported Discovery 4? D4??

Hi all, thanks for all the replies so far. I’m still researching and can’t believe there isn’t a way around this. I’m getting concerned that it is a big issue though as I just read somewhere that the maps are from different providers in Aus and Europe. Why they would do this is beyond me!
Any more thoughts greatly appreciated, and will let you know how I get on. $750 sounds a lot better than the 5k LR quoted me! But are the systems VIN specific? I think I’ll have to get that bit looked at even if I do a second hand unit?

I’ve no idea why you’re bothering. It’s awful sat nav and it will be horrendously out of date. Google maps on the smartphone. You can even tell it to present the Bluetooth audio on the call stream so it will interrupt the radio just like phone calls can. Magic (ish).

Pretty much why they do these things is down to development dollars. The budgets for development of features into a specific market is the main driving factor and there would unlikely be a development engineer in any car company in the world who would consider this type of problem in the sign off (acceptance) criteria.
As to being VIN dependant, I can't say for sure but I highly doubt it. It would have the unit serial number recorded against the VIN as part of the BOM but that's it I would think.
Sorry I am not further down the road to replacing mine as I am sure that something of use would be revealed.

Seriously, don't bother. I decided to get a Garmin earlier this year because the whole thing was so much better than the LR in dash version. Had the car since new from 2013 and to update the satnav would cost $200 roughly for a dvd that held data which was so out of date it wasn't funny. I sit the Garmin attached to the windscreen so it is just touching the dashboard slightly to the left of the speedo/tacho binnacle. It's closer to my line of sight without being intrusive and is up to date all of the time with more features than the LR one. I understand an in dash system may be nice but the trade off is too great.

He is a friend of mine and no longer has the imported D4. He gave up on getting Aus. Maps, research indicated not feasible for MY10/11.

HEMA unit would be my choice, has both off and on road maps, for similar costs to a second hand AU head unit. I don't have the factory nav in my SD and dont miss it. A friend has a HSE with au sat nav and its clunky to use.

Yeah, mine's an HSE too and whilst it does the job I find the Garmin far superior.

Ignore as built percentages, it just tells you the percentage of cars built with that feature.

There may well be other settings you need to adjust.

The CCF editing function is a handy tool (but could get you into a world of pain if you stuff things up!)

I've disabled the three flash turn signalling function (just couldn't get used to it); shortened the interior light delay from 60 to 30 seconds, and; removed the leading 0 from the odometer display. Nothing earth shattering, but handy to do.

Hi Diesel LSE, this looks exactly what I need? Does anyone know anyone in Perth that might be able to assist with this?

I have a Nuvi 65 which is OK but it doesn't have many features. Which Garmin would you choose?
