D3 SE Head Unit Replacement - sound issue

    Hi guys
Pretty sure I know what's going on here but thought I'd get some second opinions especially if there are any sparkies around.

I have had a failure in the original radio head unit for a fair while so thought I'd finally replace it.

I bought the Aerpro harnesses for the Disco 3 and the Pioneer HU and the patch leads and facia.

Everything connected together pretty straightforwardly. A lot easier than the old days before these harnesses.

Only prob is there is no sound. All other functions work but then it will shut down with AMPERROR on the led.

I think this indicates that at least 1 or more speaker leads are not connecting.
This used to happen a bit with the old system but wouldnt shut down all sound. I think this is a protection circuit coming into play on the new one.

I think the next thing is to check all speaker door connectors.

    Does this sound right?
    Thanks for any advice.

    Cheers

    Stu,
Connection from head unit to Amp under seat is via MOST fibre optic cable. At least on mine anyhow. Does your old head unit have an orange fibre optic connection that the new unit doesn't?
Not sure this is your problem but just a thought that might help.
    Cheers - Matti.

I've had a similar issue in the past with an intermittent short to chassis of one of the speaker leads. Took ages to find as it only happened in the right set of circumstances but ultimately was caused by a pinched wire. Maybe another thing to investigate.

    Thanks guys

    Thanks all.

Yes its just the basic non-HK, non optic system.

I think it'll just need working through.

    Oh well.

    Its a miracle!

Just thought I'd update on what happens sometimes with this stuff.

Left it connected but turned off for 2 days while we drove the car around.

Went to test it to find fault.

It decides to work. Can't find any probs anywhere.

    One last thing though.

Does anyone know the wattage rating of the base model speakers?

I can find all information about the Hi line and the HK7 being 50W per channel, but nothing much about the poverty spec.
I'm guessing its about 22W or there abouts.

    Cheers

    Stu
