    Post-2007 D3 to Pre-2013 D4 2.7L TDV6 EGR reliability and blanking

For the post-2007 D3's and pre-2013 D4's fitted with the 2.7L TDV6 motor I've read that blanking the EGR is not as simple as purchasing and fitting the blanking plate kit but rather requires additional ECU programming (e.g. this EGR deactivation patch file offered by BAS < Discovery(R) 3 2.7L EGR Deactivation Patch File (NOT ADVISED FOR ROAD USE) – BAS Remaps, Powering the Landrover tuning world! >). Once deactivated at the ECU are the same blanking plates as used on the earlier - pre-2007 D3 2.7L TDV6 then fitted - most of the for sale ads state it's only for pre-2007 models only but I cannot find any listing for later models so perhaps that's only due to the software patching required?

What is the EGR system like on these vehicles? Reliable?

Cant answer the above, but your last question, you are much better off without them. They wear out and play up like everything. They also cause the inlet manifold to get full of gunk. And no,fitting only blanking plates will cause issues, you need the vehicle software changed as well. Many tunes include the software to delete the EGR's.

And doing this and blanking them as well makes sure they are 100% closed.

I got mine done after a failed EGR. It was going to cost a lot to get a new one so I took the plunge. Make sure you get a nice remap while your in there. MUCH nicer car to drive & good to know less crap is entering.

And ideally delete the EGR coolers as well.

Another source of trouble down the track.

I was wondering about the coolers, they don't seem to get a mention when the topic of blanking comes up.

I had mine remapped and removed the EGR's and blanked 'em off... much, much nicer to drive, feels like a different vehicle.

    cheers

P.S. hadn't even thought about the EGR coolers.... may have to do a bit of research on that topic.
