Does your local Repco keep ZF LF6 in stock or do they order it in for you?

Well worth looking at the new Penrite BMV full synthetic oil. Have had it in my 2013 TDV6 auto for just on 9,000 klms now and very happy. Available from REPCO and a definite substitute for ZF6/8 auto oil at a far cheaper price. Specifically recommended for RR, LR, BMW, Audi, Rolls Royce, JEEP, etc all with ZF box.
15 000km on BMV and all good
If you want to risk a $8000 gearbox for a saving of a couple of $$ in fluid go right ahead.
Do a search on here and you will find this has been done to death a thousand times.
Various oils have been recommended by the oil maker (do tell) but they do not get onto the ZF list of recommended oils. Some oils have had the ZF gearbox listed on their list of gearboxes and later it has been withdrawn - hmmmm I wonder why?
But it is your gearbox to do with what you want.
Garry, the UK guys use ravenol a lot and I have not read of any issues, even the indies use non zf specified atf. I would trust penrite over many other so called alternatives.
Well if you are happy to use it and save a few dollars over a couple of years, then use it.
At $28 a litre on special every couple of weeks from Repco - I will stay with LG6 and not take the risk. About $100 to spend every couple of years is not a lot to spend on the specified oil.
I find it amazing that people are happy to spend up big on a car then skimp on the oil they put in it.
I doubt that companies like Penrite would list LR as a suitable application for their oil without spending serious money on R&D. The same fluid is used and recommends for BMW running the same transmissions.
LG6 is great, Ravenol and Penrite BMV just as good in my view.
IMHO a full flush every 50,000km using a quality fluid goes a long way to ensure a happy transmission.
I’m not sure Penrite will do much if any R&D to be honest. They are an oil blender. They take an additive pack and combine it with their base stock. The outcome is certified based on the adpack’s use case eg Dextron 6, suitable for LG6 substitution. Whether it is a suitable or not is up to your own experience. After all, gearboxes fail running genuine. They fail running non-genuine, but I surmise this is more to do with fluid change frequency than the brand.
According to Transmissions R Us in Balcatta [Perths most respected LR trans rebuilder] the LG6 can also be used in the transfer box.I let Cameron know he may be receiving a host of calls to confirm such a statement. This would be very convenient for those of us who bought a 20ltr drum and did a flush, should have a couple of litres left for the transfer case!
i just bought a litre of LR special transfer box oil from Southerns..list price $94.32 discounted to $89.95, only because there was 500ml left from a previous oil change.Next time will use the LG6.
