Mine were about the same - barely tolerable noise early, worst at 80 but still there at 100 then 2 wore unevenly which were especially noisy wherever they were fitted. I installed resonance damping material on all flat panels inside and outside, lining the front mudguards and the body panels behind, the spare wheel well, lining accessible parts of the firewall, the full length of the box sections underneath and the air reservoir but I couldn't make a big enough impact. The AT+ so far are lovely.
Quite happy with our Hankook Dynapro ATs in 235/85/16.
I've now got 1500km on a new set of Pirelli ATR+ on the standard 19" rims. Very impressed. A little more noise on billiard table smooth black top, otherwise can't tell the difference between them and the original ATR's aurally, although visually the ATR+ are much a more aggressive looking tyre. Was towing the Patriot X1 through mud and snow over the weekend in the kosciuszko national park and they were far more capable than the originals for that sort of mild offloading. I have a set of 18" Compomotive's on order and was planning on putting KO2's on them. Bit worried now after hearing all the reports of noise.
I have Michelins on mine and have noticed no increase in sound from the oem Goodyear wranglers they replaced. Went from 19" to 18" rims at the same time.

I have found that tyres get noisier with age, when I got my D3 it had well worn G-G or Wranglers on it and they were noisy, so I changed to Coopers A/T's, they were quiet at 1st, but got so noisy I thought the front diff had gone. I now have Coopers AT3's on the front and they are quiet. Although I think they are hardening, as they 1st start to squeal on smooth surfaces like parking yards, and then in roundabouts, hopefully they don't start roaring/droning in a straight line.
Dead right. A mate of mine was convinced, as I was, that one of his rear wheel bearings was totally shot in his Laser. Running RE002s (they are effectively grooved slicks). It was the tyres. One had started to cup a bit as it wore. The noise and vibration were horrendous. New tyres fitted a few days ago and it's quiet and smooth. Once any tyre states to cup (or high/low, or whatever you want to call it) it'll really set up some noise and vibration and get worse.
Note we are both quite experienced engineers that have extensive tyre backgrounds. Bit embarrassing really...
I run 285/60R18 KO2s on my L320 and find them pretty quiet overall given the tread. I know they are there, but not offensive to me at all. The 285/35R22s highway tyres on there before were really no better amd had no excuse. I know the KO2s will get noisier and at half tread or so I'll replace them, but I would anyway as they are off road tyres and tread depth = grip. Must admit I've been eyeing off the D697s. I've never heard a bad thing regarding on road manners or strength from anyone with the tyres still in decent condition.
