Probably because the 265/60/18 is OEM size for models in the Paj and Prado range, and some dual cabs.

Yep, which is why I'll probably stick with that size but the 265/65 is that damned close to a 265/75-16 in diamater and had that little bit more give in the sidewall.....

I decided on getting the BFG KO2 tyres - I had shortened the choice down to those and also the 697s.

The BFGs were more costly, but not by much. I thought the extra cost of the BFG worthwhile.

But the interesting thing was that the price difference on the BFG between the 265/65/18 and the 265/60/18 was I recall $1.80 per tyre. I bought them 7 weeks ago by the way. There is a lot more tyre on a 65 profile than the 60 profile - a lot more height in the wall. A lot more triple layer Kevlar. A lot more contact patch when you let them down (I am unsure yet how far the BFGs will actually lower though - the side wall maybe stiff). But I also thought the higher profile of 65 would be more able to flex than a lower profile, hence they may go lower than the shorter side wall.

The fuel economy on my 2014 D4 HSE did not change towing - a real surprise. Considering that I am going longer distances than the computer and odometer knows, then its actually better value vis a vis fuel

The downside on the 65 profile though is that the factory rear tyre space will not fit a deflated BFG 265/65/18 tyre - so the tyre guys who tried, they said it definitely will not fit. So I carry one on the roof and a standard sized tyre underneath. I don't have a locked rear diff so the smaller diameter should not matter if a replace a tyre, but I will treat that underneath tyre as a run flat. But anyway putting in tyres underneath is dirty work IMO.

The 265/65/18s are not touching either - I also fitted an ARB bar - no winch though. I don't know if that assists not rubbing. Since I tow full lock can be important - but there's no rubbing.

I had Grabbers - 255/55/18s before. But I only had one flat with them - due to a renovation and a roofing nail. I reckon the BFGs would laugh at a roofing nail, but who knows ...

    Good luck

I have BFG KO 265/65/18 and it definately fits underneath if its deflated. The tyre people did not try hard enough. Or if you have the tow hitch connected you will have to take that off. I have about 24K on my tyres now and the spare does not need to be deflated anymore. As to economy etc. My Odometer and trip odometers are 6% less than actual. The Computer LPH kms was never accurate with OEM tyres and now is 2% out from actual. Measurement was done using a seperate GPS and petrol bowser readings. When the tyres were brand new sitting on 100kph via GPS the speedo was actually reading 100pkh. 20,000ks down the road and 100kph via speedo is actual 99.8kph via GPS. I guess this discrepency will become "larger" as the tyre diameter gets smaller.

The local tyre bloke reckons at least one model Colorado now wears the 265/65R18 from the factory.
So it's starting to become a little more common.
He actually had a set of Pirelli's in stock in that size

18' on the D3 so assume its basically the same. 265/60/18 no issues at all but I have a long range tank so the spare is on the rear bar.

Came with 255 /60/18 as standard I think , but been thru plenty of radars and no speeding fines as yet so speedo must be still ok. Plenty of choice with this size as plenty of cars have them as standard. Ranger / Prado / Pajero and a few more from what I can gather.

    Cheers Ean

I also run KO2's 265/60 r18 on my D4. Have got about 55,000km out of them and probably only a bit over 1/2 worn. I do run them on road at 40 psi cold and regularly rotate them. Minimal road noise for an AT.

    Hi There,

I'm looking to put the same size K02's on the my D4 but the tyre place are telling me they won't fit as they had to make adjustment fitting the 265/60/18 previously but using a 18x9 alloy wheel.

Just wondering what rims you had these on? I'm looking at the tuffant D5 18x8 rim as its got an additional 17mm track width.

Did you have any rubbing on the chassis or front bar? i also have the ARB Bullbar.

Apologies if i haven't posted in the correct place, first time on this forum.

    Thanks

    Hi There,

Did you get any rubbing with those size tyres when new or did you require any modifications to arches, bumper or chassis that you know of?

That size is my preference but the tyre shop assures me they will not fit!

What rim do you have it on please?
