D4 - how to replace Electronic Park Brake switch in centre console?

As I understand the switches connect to an ECU. The ECU’s communicate their messages over the canbus between each other. Whether the individual signal state of each switch require being transmitted on the bus is I guess the question.

Perhaps I don't really understand the question as the console switch is for the Electronic Park Brake and the brake pedal operates the vehicles hydraulic brakes - two different systems. The error on the IIDTool specified the EPB switch was at fault. As I am not aware of another EPB switch than that on the console I replaced it and it's resolved the issue.

That's what I was asking if gap specifically said epb or just brake switch.

Can't recall the exact wording but it was certainly clear that it's the handbrake switch at fault and not the foot brake.

Interestingly, our second D4 has come up with a fault handbrake switch at almost similar km's to when the first one did it. For those in the 165,000 - 180,000km zone consider that you may be effected by this at some point too.
In both cases the switch has still functioned to activate the handbrake but has not disengaged it or been intermittent.
Replacement part number for ours has been LR071958.

6. Now you can remove the EPB securing screw.
7. There's a tab holding the EPB switch in place. But despite lifting this with a screw driver, I still cannot push the switch out - there's only room to push it towards the front of the car. I cannot see anything else holding it in place though - I don't know what I am missing here!?!

EDIT: got it. You've got to push the front (where the screw hole is) up while sliding it forward as it sits in a slight recess.

I've got a park brake issue - multiple pulls to activate (150 000 kms, FYI). The curious thing is that diagnostic tools can't communicate with the brake either (discovered all this on the back of installing a new actuator and not being able to initiate the bed in procedure).

Before I go and replace the EPB switch (ok I'll probably do that anyway), is there anything else in the comms/electrical system known to cause issues?
