You can't just "adapt" to the Lo-Line system, it users CAN between the head unit, screen and amplifier.

The only option is to add a screen with audio into the factory AUX input (what naviplus does), or do a full system with new amplifiers as well as the head unit / screen.

We are just going for a seperate screen (mounted above the dash) and reverse camera setup now - this covers our only missing concern which is wanting a reverse camera. There's too many complications in trying to integrate anything into the factory setup, which either leave you with buttons that become redundant and no longer function or other side effects, and the factory bluetooth works far too well to loose.

Given your penchance for research, did you not consider one of the rearview mirror reversing camera options to help keep things tidy? Some of them are pretty good/ some rubbish!

I didn't spend long on that option for a few reasons:
    1. Most seemed to go over the top of the original mirror which becomes bulky and messy. The original mirror is fairly moulded and integrated so not easy to replace in it's entirety.
    2. The original mirror is self dimming so that is potentially lost by replacing it.
    3. Monitor size on the mirror screens is restricted.
    4. My very limited experience of them is that there is some glare on the screen due to the reflective mirror coating having to be overpowered by the screen image coming through.

The on the dash unit we are looking at rests on the top of the dash using a suction mount on the window as it's securing - so easy and quick to remove. The wiring loom can be hardwired in with the cables neatly run under the trim.

Well you could..... But it's hard.
I have come some way in reading the canbus in the D4.
life has got in the way of that bit of research.
Link here D4 Can Bus ID tracking
If an android head unit was used, an arduino could be adapted to read the key presses over can bus and then convert to USB as a keyboard button press, if a USB port was available.
Or, if determined, hack the keypad itself, which would probably be easier.
Like I said though, still hard and not been done before in this application.
