D4 RHS Dash - can I safely drill into the top?

About the only place left to put my EGT gauage is to the right of the binnacle between it and the A pillar and on top near the windscreen and just forward of the side window air vent.

I'm not sure if velcro on its own will hold the gauge stand in place, and using a supporting self tapper screw would ease my mind. Only thing is there is an airbag sign in the immediate area (plus one in the A pillar.

QUESTION - Does this mean if I drill through the leather on the top of the dash and into the steel underneath, I'm likely to cause an airbag explosion?

It it were mine I wouldn't drill or velcro. Velcro has too much movement unless you intend on relocating it often. I find 3M double sided tape the way to go . Make sure you clean the surfaces with alcohol wipes but, only the area that the tape will comein contact with. Incase it reacts with your leather. Remember lots of oils and protectants in the leather that will hinder the adhesion long term . Good luck.

I personally would not drill into an area anywhere near an airbag, I suspect that not only would you make the car unroadworthy, but run the risk of creating a dangerous missile in the form of an EGT gauge in the event of an accident where the airbags would be deployed. Your call though...
