I've been thinking of doing same @ 200,000 klms just turned.

sorry to steal thread, but since you mentioned 'cruisers, just read of an LC300 cruiser being written off due to rats eating a main wiring loom. New loom around 8-12 months ex Japan, no part number yet but Toyota quoting approx $12k for loom and labour also approx $12-14k.
Owner has renta car thru insurance @ approx $100 a day for entire time car is off the road and due to potential unforseen expensive probs the insurance company wrote it off.
Will probably sell it for a reasonably high price to a mechanic/workshop as a repairable w/off who'll do the repair when loom available.
    The joys of modern motoring...
So said LC300 owner now has a 8 - 12 month wait for a replacement vehicle too???

Dunno. Quite likely, assuming he decides to go Toyo again.
I read all this info from an Australian Mechanics f/book site which I follow.
Basically, it is a Tech site where (in many cases) self employed mechs discuss problems and help each other with difficult diagnosis, weird problems, or the best/quickest way to do certain repairs, etc.
Usually, someone somewhere has experienced a similar situation so they provide their knowledge to each other rather than wasting many hours going down the wrong track.
Its an excellent idea and works very well.
Get to read some weird and odd tech problems and really daft designs with modern vehicles. And yes, they ALL suffer stupid problems no matter who the manufacturer is.

Only if you want some special colour, there are quite a few around in yards.Just have to ring around.
But you will pay full retail.

Talking about waiting for parts,LR have 10,000 faulty vehicles in the UK that are waiting for parts.
The suggestion was to use second hand parts…..

There is a link to the issue I put up on another thread.

A rediculous situation to get into,or is it just the result of more than the usual having issues, and parts being more difficult to get hold of?

    We will never know.

Woke up to the car on bump stops and an audible air leak from the back left corner. Not really what I wanted to do today. Current plan is to take off the compressor guard, tyre and spare. It sounds like the valve block as it seems behind the strut

15 minute job! The green air hose was loose and leaking. Dropped the spare tyre and tightened it up. No idea why it had come loose except that it was a pain in the arse to tighten when I changed the block two years ago

Coolant level alarm fired. Take a look, most of the reservoir bottle empty. No leak to be seen anywhere, no smell of coolant around the engine.

This is going to be expensive.

The inlet plastic fitting on the passenger side of the block my bet as is well hidden and guaranteed to fail. Fiddly job. Good luck

Given the blackness of the coolant I suspect an EGR, but I’ll take it to Dover’s and get them to sort it. Don’t have anywhere to sort it or time.
