Hi everyone!
Our black 2011 D4 (bought in October 2023) was stolen from Tugun beach while I was in the surf.
Thieves broke in to the surflock and drove off using the smart key.
I was in t process of organising a second key, so we had no backup keys.
Our D4 was found by the police only a short distance away just last week and towed to the holding yard.
As it has no keys, after talking with the GC's independent and the GC dealer about options, I had it towed to the dealer.
Expecting costs of new keys, KVM and anything else.
On Friday the dealer's service team informed me that the BCM was locked so a new BC (from UK, 4 weeks $1700) was needed.
Total cost to get two smart keys, KVM and BCU, will be about $4300.
sigh
At this stage, from the searches I have done, it seems that the locked BCM and KVM is typical when trying to program new keys but not having the old ones.
Does anyone have experience of programming new keys for a D4 when the BCM is 'locked'- can anything 'unlock' the 'locked' BCU? Perhaps the IID GAP tool (still to purchase), a Nanocom (ours was stolen as it was in the car, mind you) or any other process?
I am expecting it isn't possible, but hoping against hope.

IIRC the dealer or perhaps it's the JLR factory can programme a key from the VIN, and I think insurance will pay for this as they should make good any damage when a car is stolen and recovered, unless the total is too much in which case they will write it off.
Hi John,
Good question. Comprehensive has no coverage at all if using an external key lock (such as the surf-lock I use). Can't take a fob in the water, and leaving it on the beach I would have surely been targeted too.
After the theft, I now use a Prolock steering wheel lock on our vehicles, split fob from key etc.

Do you know where the car was dumped?
If may be worth a walk around…thieves possibly just threw key away…
Get a key cut that you can take into the water tied in your boardies [emoji41]Quote:
