I always shove rag into every pipe I expose every time on both sides. Too easy to drop something in there either knowingly or not and have a world of pain [emoji106]

What happened to our D4 SC lately???
...absolutely nothing...so compared to the D2 TD5 and all previous Discos we've had.. I now have lots more time to spend on other projects...or...perhaps I'll modify the D4...maybe some spot lights would look good ..mmmm...
Seems strange not having warning lights or oil leaks to deal with😁
Well, it was a near thing, looked verrrry seriously at a new Patrol Ti-L, seduced by the upcoming cost of maintenance on the D4 and overall outlay to get into the Patrol. A new car with 5 year unlimited km warranty and some nice features, engine, drive train and creature comforts. Also some features missing that I thought should have been there in that market segment, also a carrying capacity that is not as good as the D4, although a bigger load space, but 3rd row seats that don't fold flat, the fuel thing is a non-issue (my next vehicle will likely be a petrol anyway) and after a couple of extended test drives it's a nice place to be. In the end though so is the D4, a nice place to be that is, and so I will do the required maintenance and enjoy it for another 5 years at least. I sat down and did a spec sheet between Patrol, D4, D5 and Defender, eye opening to say the least just how advanced LR products are, particularly the new Defender when it lands, but they are expensive. Defender X at $148,000 is right up there, even a HSE with some options will be $125,000+, similar numbers with the D5, so the Patrol at around $90,000 was worth a look.
Having said all that, so what happened to my D4 today, it dodged a bullet, is about to get a mid-life makeover and is still loved.[smilebigeye]

Yeah we went throught them all inc 200 series, jeep, rangies and the y62 def stood out until we drove the D4 SC. All 4 of us looked at each other and nodded..this is the car we agreed...and 30k and more cheaper than the others with the same mileage. Rangies also v good but hard to find a good one and the D4 is rangie-like anyway.
Like you we'll stick with the D4 for another 5 years or so.
My last D2a,in 8 yrs, hardly had an issue,in 100 000Km,all i did was replace the coils and shocks,as the corrugations had wrecked them, and coils had sagged. And a MAF senser, and rear brake pads. Not many $ at all.
Where my D4 in 8yrs, 85000Km,has had brakes all round, including rotors, two lots of EAS issues(front struts both sides leaking, corner valves replaced, leaking as well),electric hand brake switch fail, front control arms and timing belts replaced. An expensive exercise.
But as we all know, the D4 is way nicer to drive than the D2.
My D4 has had 2 LCA bushes, rotors and pads at 125k, an alternator at 135k and I did the Belts at 100k. Other than that just services, of which the first 3 years were free.
And it’s saved me a fortune in modifications. This would be the least modified vehicle I’ve ever owned.
TBS, rack, wheel carrier, XLifter, tank and bullbar are the big ticket items.
Everything before that was pushed to the limits [emoji6]
The arduous schedule recommends them at 100k and I had that up at the 5 year mark.
I’ve never been a fan of running out to the limits on servicing such items so went with it.
All done body on. Adelaide dealer didn’t it for me after we negotiated a price (sub $800)
