A lady complaining their 2016 Sahara LC200 has failed at 124,000klms
Injectors and resulting damage #7 & #8 pistons gone and out of warranty.
Something is not right there as Toyota still do the injectors for no cost, even well out of warranty, and at any mileage.Affects some vehicles,2016-2019,and is a known problem,i have the manufacturers TSB here. They do a lot more than replace the just the injectors once they fail,EGRs,DPFs and software upgrades to name a few.Good to see the manufacturer acknowledges the problem, and do the repairs at no cost well out of warranty, unlike the green oval on many, many issues, particularly engines.

Short runs where the engine is not warmed up exasperate the problem.

Pistons gone,i presume cracked is very rare on a 1-VD,if the story is correct, which i doubt it.Common on chipped Prados though.

Dealer price for crate engine change over probably and way,way over the top, same as LR dealers.

Turbos at 100,00Km,must be a lot more to the story?
Same as LR,many vehicles are wrongly diagnosed by the dealers,a good Indi will probably find it is a simple issue, unless the vehicle has not been serviced correctly.

I actually saw one the other day on an LC forum, transfer box shot, dealer price close to $12K to replace
Indi diagnosed it as actuator full of water, breather had been dislodged, and had filled actuator mechanism full of water.
    Transfer case fine.

Now i will go hide under a rock

To “maintain” implies confidence in the first place. All vehicles cark it, it just seems Toyota > Land Rover in the customer service department. Actually I’m not at all sure Land Rover has a customer service department. Still, it has character, mostly works ok and I still love it. I drive dad’s LC200 a bit and it’s more like a Honda motorcycle. Does everything with great capability but completely devoid of character and soul.

Not unheard of with 200's. My brother in laws 200 has had both of his replaced when it was 4 years old (can't remember what km's it had on it).

If replacing air struts just because “old” would you preference front or rear if doing staged over a period of time?

I’m thinking for rear that the rear wheel bearings and top control arm and hub bushes at same time as part of a regional freshen up.

When I did mine at 200,000km, I bought all the parts in stages to keep each transaction under 1k:
    - front upper and lower wishbones kits l+r complete with ball joints
    - rear upper and lower wishbones kits l+r complete with ball joints
    - front struts and bearing hubs
    - rear struts and new bearings

    Replaced it as a whole.

First real internal clean of the interior in a couple of years. Cream leather isn’t black anymore, and nor are the internal door cards.

Best help was my soft bristle drill brush versus my toothbrush I used to use. Made it soooo much quicker to get into the leather grain.

Towed the van away for a long weekend camping on the Murray near Tocumwal, bit hot at 36/37/38 but being right on the river with a breeze it was nice.

D3 transmission going into "F" fail mode quite often now, as it goes from 5th to 6th if I have a bit too much throttle applied and it goes to say 2400 RPM it will drop back to 5th then go into F mode.
Same with going up a bit of a hill it will do same thing. When it does this it locks it into a lower gear and RPM shoots up so need to get over quickly.
Pull over, turn off, lock / unlock 3 times and on way again.

I am finding if I use light throttle and keep the gear changes around 2000 RPM it will behave. A real PITA.
I had thought of doing a fluid change, new filter and seals but don't think it will help and probably wasting my money for no result.

Full rebuild I am thinking including new TC.
