What happened to your D3/D4 today?

Can confirm about an hour of easy toil to remove the non rear AC version. Some impressive dust behind the rear side compartments and if you’ve never done it worth removing the rear tailgate lower flap and lifting the rubber door seal to reveal lots of trapped sand and dirt. High rust potential with trapped moisture.

Before reinstalling should i run any cabling for anything useful I can’t think of now?

Today rotated the tyres including the spare and adjusted the rear park brake shoes whilst in there. They were well overdue.

Rear Dash Cam cable is handy...

I'll see how this next experiment goes, and if that fails I might put a manual disable switch on the Carplay module, same as I have on the reversing camera so I can prevent it switching to reverse camera when I have the van on the back.
I just bought an automatic switch box from Cambo and plugged it in at the camera plug left rear roof area. When the van is plugged in it automatically goes to the van camera. When van is unplugged the car camera activates automatically. Not an expensive option

The problem with that is I have 2 inputs. The reverse camera is enabled when the "reverse" wire on the GVIF goes high. That overrides anything else it's doing. The Van camera I switch with a hidden button in sequence "Carplay-->Van-->D3 Nav". The reverse signal is behind the glove box with an in-line bullet connector, so I pop it open and pop the connector when I have the van on, and connect it back up when I don't. What I really need is something with a relay output that inhibits the reverse signal when the van camera is connected. I've breadboarded a circuit that works but it's not high enough on the "to fix" list at the moment.

Ideally I'd like to sniff one of the CAN busses and find a message that says "trailer connected, but again I have the gear and not the time.

If I were to use a 2 into 1 switch, I'd then have to route the output to both inputs to make sure when in reverse I got the right camera. My way is more Heath Robinson but presents a more coherent operator interface. Seeing reversing lines on the Van camera when I'm backing the van just wouldn't look right.

TBH I’m really not following, I’m electrically minded, but I don’t follow electronics to that extent - but that’s ok. Just to be clear, I ran the aviation plug from my tow bar to near the rear internal light. That’s where the vehicle camera has a joining plug. Then I added the automatic switch box there ensuring that vehicle is plugged into the slave port and the van into the master. Vehicle camera acts normally, but when van is plugged in it overrides the vehicle camera and I get the van feed.

John, this setup only works for the later version of the vehicle system, I think facelift onwards. Older ones don’t have the same camera input setup.

I have done the same on my 2014 a few years back but sourced the switching setup and Fakra cables myself (not something cambo offered back then)

    Cheers,
    Scott

Oh right. So his car may not have this plug? Didn’t occur to me that this might be the case.
