Gave it a good wash after it’s been sitting for nearly 2 months with just the battery charged every 3 weeks
time to start planning next years pilgrimage to the top end, new tires, the old KO 3 have done 70,000km, new compressor , still the original so preventing a failure at the most inconvenient time anda full service including transmission and all oils and fluids
Any other recommendations? It’s at nearly 150,000km

Bit of a scary moment today in the D3, went to over take a slower vehicle, pulled out and was half way past and it went to limp engine F mode
Pulled over and put gap tool on it. Emailed the codes to myself and cleared codes. It drove home the 6km or so ok.

    • P000E-22 (68) Fuel volume regulator control exceeded learning limit - General signal failure - signal amplitude>maximum
    • P0087-00 (2C) Fuel rail/system pressure - too low

These really worry me as the little research I did indicates anything from clogged fuel filter to failing HPFP.

I have never had this issue before and have had the D3 since new.

Keen to know thoughts of others who may have experienced this one.

    thanks
    cheers
    Peter

It's getting close to the 160 000 timing belt change, but more likely It's been done at the 7 year mark. It would be a big trip if you put over 10 000 on it, half way around Aus really.

Prior to driving the Tanami Road in 2022 I had our AMK compressor serviced and the fluids in it have been done at regular intervals.

The other thing I did prior to a trip to the Pilbara in 2019 (when the vehicle was 13 years old) was replaced all 4 air struts as they were all original and whilst not showing any visible signs of failing, I decided that the roads we were planning to drive on meant a 'happy life' if they didn't fail... That's the only thing that sticks out to me that you haven't mentioned.

Any specific part of the Top End for this trip?
    Cheers, Dale

How many kms? Normally about 250 k kms.

I believe you’ve just received your first unwelcome membership invite to the failing hpfp club.

Definitely check lp side and fuel filter.

Mine started like this in the April and went off two or three times fast requiring pulling out of traffic in limp mode and access height.

It then did not reappear for months until I gave up around the next January and changed it.

I eventually caught it on the Gap tool by monitoring the PCV and VCV functions (BradC is the absolute expert) and you see failure of one of these to react at the time of the fault.

Definitive proof is hard as it could fault 5 minutes after the first one or maybe not for months meaning driving with the Gap tool running.

It’s not such a bad job to replace. A lot of finger gymnastics.

No definite plans yet but basically Melbourne, Flinders Ranges, possibly Ooddnadatta Track, East McDonald Ranges , Darwin, Litchfield, Kakadu then east and down through outback QLD and NSW
We did Kimberly and Gibb 2018 , GSR 2022 East coast nearly all the way to the tip last year so time for a desert orientated trip next year and escape Melbourne winter but need to be back for the Echuca Winter blues festival as that’s become bit of a ritual

Some good scenery in the West Macdonnell's too. I don't know how far west you are going but the Keep River National Park is worth a look if you're near Kununurra (just inside the NT), and the Gregory is on the way across there at Timber Creek. Meanwhile remember that the rest of us will be working...
