    Picked up the D4 SC

Finally got my hands on the D4 SC after a week of tortuous dealings between an unfreindly lease company with a French name and a slightly cunning part owner who kept back the pick up no doubt to use the car as long as he could and use up all the fuel. Damm those baristas!

My advice: beware buying cars with novated lease arrangements over them..it's all too hard!

Anyhow the 350k drive back home was simply amazing. What a brilliant car so quiet and smooth and so powerfull making overtaking a breeze.....see a gap n take it☺

Fuel use not too bad ar 13.5 l/100ks...I can live with that given there were occassional burst of speeeed😎

I did the same trip recently in an LC 200 and the difference could not be starker. The Cruiser wallowed all over the road..seats were uncomfortable ... stereo rubbish compared to the Disco and fuel use was the same.

The ZF 8 speed is really well matched to the engine and never got lost for gears. The box also provides great retardation from eg overtaking thereby not needing to hit the brakes repeatedly.

.and what an engine..simply breathtaking acceleration with a slight super charger whine.. so smooth and so powerful.

Found a bonus too...there's a Redarc electric trailer brake system very neatly installed on the lower right panel. One less thing to do.

Wow. .. I think LR left the best till last with the D4 SC.

Looking forward to taking it off road soon..we have a test track here my boys built which should test it to the limit.

Anyone else got one out there?

I'd be interested in any other feedback eg issues to look out for 'cept the water pump which I'm aware of and which has been replaced recently.

I never new this engine was even available in aus and surprised that a fairly small petrol motor is any good in a heavy barge SC or not.
Interested in what the fuel usage is towing or offroad.

The new Defender, with 2x 2.0L diesels and a 2 or 3L petrol will be interesting for this very reason. By all accounts the V6SC is a damn fine engine - but Aussies love their diesels...

Why would it not have an 8 speed - the 6 speed was stopped well before the SC was released.

According to the OP it has an 8 speed ZF auto box..

not wanting to to jump on the negativity bandwagon myself, the D4 SC sounds like a sweet ride to me.... Generating 340 horsepower at 6500 rpm and 450Nm (332ftpounds) of torque at 3500-5500 rpm I’ll bet it’s no slouch.

Edit: corrected Nm to ftlbs conversion

The first article that comes up when I googled clearly identifies it as 8spd, Mr Doubtful.

    Picked up the D4 SC

Sorry, not wanting to be negative either. I should have said surprised rather than doubtful. But here’s my logic.

I know another member on here who tried to get Land Rover Aust to supply the early D4 with the V8 (like in the L322) and was unsuccessful. JLR subsequently made them available with the 5.0NA with the 6 speed.

I know the L322 from late 2009 up until it ended in 2011 had the 5.0SC matched to the ZF 6 speed, while the 4.4 diesel L322 had the 8 speed ZF from 2009. The L405 had the 8 speed with 5.0SC from 2011.

This D4 maybe an 8 speed special order with the 5.0SC if built after 2011. The D4 did continue to 2015.

It’s the V6SC not the V8SC, built mainly for the U.S. market but a few came here after the NA V8 was dropped. It came with the ZF 8 speed.
