D4 Transfer & Diff Oil Question

Also - I should have mentioned - the book says to put in those amounts - however in my experience it is close enough to just fill to the bottom of the fill holes as long as the vehicle is level. Everytime I have done mine (the tfr case every 80,000km) and the diffs every 24,000km it has worked out to be only a few mls in it - slightly over.

Just fill till it runs out then put the filler plug in and clean up. If you have a rear e-diff you will need to lookup oil and capacity as it is different to a normal rear diff.

Yep - like 101RRS said - the transfer case has an electronically controlled multi-plate wet clutch in it to provide centre diff locking and torque biasing function (for control of off road performance and on road comfort for example when parking). The LR specific oil (and the Royal Purple alternative) would be specified with the wet clutch in mind.
