New D4 owner - A few thoughts and minor issues

Hi Darren,

I've just taken delivery last week of a MY15 D4 myself so I'm going through a similar honeymoon/adjustment period but coming from a Pajero and a couple of classic Porsche's.

My thoughts:
1. Agree- very smooth and a pleasure to drive. Way more torque than my old Paj. My wife drove it for the first time to work today and said it was "very comfortable to drive and lovely and quiet". So that's a win!
2. Agree, but as expected. Certainly have the expected body roll around corners but I expected that from all of the reviews and my research.
3. I hear you and I'm in totally the same boat as you. I convinced myself that all is going to be fine, but there is still a bit of a niggle in the back of head. May consider an extended warranty as well.
4. Mine doesn’t creak at all, but I've got the XXV version which is basically a tarted up HSE with extended leather pretty much everywhere.
5. I'm totally happy with the tech and stream my iphone no problems.
6. Agree. I'm gong to get mine serviced @ 6-monthly intervals circa 10K-13K km's. Mine has 93K km's on it on delivery and it's booked in next week for a full service and auto transmission service also.
7. Agree. Notice the lag on take off. Not dissimilar to my old Paj though. I'm not one for stomping it off of the lights though so it doesn't bother me whatsoever.

I love the car so far. In terms of the creaking plastics its not like it happens all of the time on all road surfaces, however I am extremely OCD about creaks and rattles in cars. My wife probably wouldn't even notice them unless I pointed them out. The car is fitted with a bull bar and all terrain tyres and was purchased from a dealership. It may have done a bit of off roading or a lot of off roading which may have contributed to the creaking plastics?? Sounds like you can punish them off road and not have these sorts of issues. I suppose it only takes two pieces of plastic rubbing together to cause this. Hard to isolate though.

At 95K klms I plan on getting the fluids changed, maybe not the gearbox for now due to budget but that is planned to happen soon.

The auto oil change for the 8 speeder is not as expensive as the 6 speed which ideally should have the oil pan conversion. OIl pan conversion is not available/necessary for the 8 speed and many of us are using the Penrite auto oil Full Synthetic BMV which is much cheaper than the notoriously expensive ZF oil. Some deniers are still dubious about the BMV as history has proven other oil company's claims that their oil is compatible with the ZF oil to have been incorrect, but the BMV is definitely a worthy substitute as I have done over 20k in my MY2013 since changing to BMV and no probs whatsoever. Available from REPCO stores. Have driven a few D3/4's and dashboard squeaks are non existent so yours should be fixable. I absolutely know and understand what you are saying re reliability; but mine has done 123k with absolutely no probs whatsoever. I change engine oil/filter every 10k with Penrite Full Synthetic Enviro Plus C1. Just about to replace the coolant water "distributor" at front of Valley Cover which is an well documented absolute necessity at around 120-130k before it self destructs and causes massive water leak and potential engine overheat at the most inconvenient time. It's called Preventative Maintenance. Enjoy your Disco, they are a superb vehicle and better than my old 2009 TDV8 RRS. The Disco 3/4 rides better, possibly due to slightly longer wheelbase? (But that TDV8 is the better engine; wish it was in the Disco!!)

What’s the longer term cost?

NB: I don’t drive in sand mode other than on sand, but have tried it.

Preloading diffs, and additional stress through driveline.
Whilst negligible in terms of stress, the diff preload will be higher.

Is that on all models
what about the earlier HSE and V8 models I thought they could stream from maybe 2010?

Nope, even the high end model’s couldn’t stream in 2010.

Tune2Air plugged into the Apple connector made it possible, but yep, not from out of the factory.

For blue tooth streaming I use one of these via the iPod socket in the centre console (Bovee1000)

Works a treat, skip play stop etc, shows name. Basically emulates an iPod. Hand free etc for calls all works as normal as well with the in car blue tooth (they don't fight each other) so is just like a factory solution....
