Fault codes C1131 and P1A20 - air suspension

    Hi
my error appears to be different to what I first thought, typically when a compressor is on the way out you start the car, the compressor runs for ages and eventually the computer decides it’s not filling fast enough or the temperature is getting too high so it throws a fault and locks you out from using the air suspension.

Mine is different in that it throws the fault within ten seconds of starting the car (most of the time)

does this make sense to anyone here?

im on a trip with limited tools but I took the compressor cover off, and confirmed the following:

    - no leaks from the pipes coming out of the compressor
    - I removed the intake for the air and the fault continued meaning it’s not a blocked intake pipe
    - the car doesn’t lower overnight
    - after the fault I can continue to drive for hours with caravan and no issues, it just holds normal height

thoughts on other things to consider? I’m leaning towards it not being the compressor itself just purely on the short time it takes to throw the fault.
occasionally it runs for ages and ages before faulting but majority it’s almost instant

    Is it a Hitachi?
If so have you ever serviced it and replaced the rear dryer cover? They are prone to cracking between the two fittings on the dryer cover and leaking. Failing that, a blocked dryer (from powered desiccant) also causes a similar error.

The error you have is related to being slow to pressurise. Search for C1A20 (confirmed ) not P for Pending to get more info.

It’s an aftermarket AMK from advanced factors, two years old.

im not convinced it’s the compressor simply because the error is so quick to throw rather than running for ages and then determining it’s too slow and throwing the error. It’s like it’s not even giving it a chance to run

leaninf towards a valve block issue, any ideas how to test them?

I had exactly the same thing happen with my hitachi not a AMK it showed all the same signed you have. It faulted after 10 seconds of starting the car. It would fault after 20 min of driving same issue only normal height available. In the end I tried a rebuild of the compressor didn’t work. Replaced compressor all fixed no issue.

Might be a new compressor time.
The worst part, I still have a spare brand new one at home - it only has a faulty sensor on it which I could swap out before installing.

what a shame I’m on my six month trip now with no chance of getting it.

anyone know a good place in VIC to have the work done? I’m currently at Wilson’s prom for three days then heading to Mornington then across to GOR.

What have people paid for a compressor in Aus?

    thanks, Luke
