Electric park brake adjustment - after manual release

Worth checking the pads and actuation nevertheless.

It used to be a replace entirely new for old situation but note that now Britpart sell a kit for the plastic gear wheels in the module that can get damaged. The rest seems pretty bulletproof.

In this vid he mentions the dust packing out the pads and disturbing the adjustment (which assumes everything is clean when you set it up).

Also see the lever arm on the new EPB brake pad half he holds. That pivot hinge was very stiff on mine but cleaned up to move very freely. Would not help matters being stiff.

Mine jammed completely and I took it to my mechanic. Took him almost 5 hours to get it unjammed. Was still cheaper than a new EPB module!

So the EPB jammed but you were able to do the manual release to drive still?

mine makes an odd series of beeps now, but nothing.
can drive it but no handbrake

Yeah the manual release disconnects the handbrake cable from the tension mechanism inside the epb module. Well thats a simplified version anyway.

The issue with the module is that it has no end travel sensor. It spins the threaded shaft inside until the carriage that travels along it jams at the end of the rod. It needed a simple switch to tell it it was at the end of its travel and throw a code and disable the epb but for whatever reason thats not there.

I took the cover off the module to try and release it but i had no luck. My mechanic had to beat on it for a couple of hours...
