So... My learnings. If you get home and it lowers significantly. But only to standard height.. Then it's a good sign your shocks are worn. Not the bags the shock itself.
As they wear out and stop damping the wheel travels to far so the car keeps adding height to keep away from the bump stop. When you get home and stop.. It sees that it's now to high and resets. I replaced struts at 200k or there abouts and it stopped straight away.. Only does it now if I've been driving fast in the rough. Those ks on original dampers will be due. The change was night and day to the drive.

My MY13 D4 so far has never dropped by itself (except when obliged to from high to normal at speed) and I usually drop it to access height manually when parking - so no-one falls to the ground when exiting. No leaks detected yet because it always (touch wood) has stayed at the height last left.
