2012 D4 - TDV6 2.7 ECU remap - worth it?

Order from BAS in the UK, you'll get a tool that also can do basic ECU fault finding.

It’s developed for BAS and is based on the Gap tool but with Engine CU functionality only.

Can also display outputs etc.

Option 2 is get the essential GAP tool and just order the Tune from BAS

I'm not familiar with Brisbanes Land Rover specialists but I'm sure Google will help you find. It's not particularly hard though if your relatively handy. I've already linked the instructions which you can review to see if its within your comfort levels.

I assume option 2 is the superior choice?

I will say that purchase of the ECU tune and EGR deactivation from BAS for both our MY12 D4 TDV6's was super quick and smooth. Would highly recommend.

I'd suggest reading the threads on snapped cranks etc on these over stressed engines. [bigwhistle]

None of those issues reported on the D4 2.7,which is what the OP has.

Although I get your point for the D3 2.7,and 3.0l.

Although the 3.0L is pretty good without a tune.

Even the 2.7 D3 is pretty good without a remap.

But one theory on the South African 4x4 forum is a remap that gives improved bottom end torque can reduce the chance of a snapped crank as it avoids the need to use higher revs which is when the stress on the crank is the highest.

Interesting but my instinct is the opposite would be true. Like trying to ride up a hill in a low gear on your bike you are loading up the pedals, crank and your knees unbelievably compared to a high rpm scenario.

I suppose it depends on what induces the failure. Is stress or harmonics?

Hardly overstressed. In other vehicles the 3.0 is tuned far higher than the SDV6. (I wouldn’t take a 3.0 TDV6 beyond the SDV6 tube level though)

The D4 2.7s handle the upgrades easily. And BAS won’t overtune either.
