Rock Crawl

Ok thanks for all those comments - so it seems unanimous that the CDL does not lock and stay locked in Rock Crawl and if you need to turn the steering wheel to high angle the cdl unlocks - this is what the guy on the other forum was saying - and in addition the vehicle fails to proceed which is why he raised the issue.

For me the need for a button to manually activate the cdl is needed as more and more people are raising issues about problems when Rock Crawl is selected. Despite the retoric of the past, the D3/D4 does not act like a traditional 4wd when in Rock Crawl.

Yeah, it definitely isn't completely locked 100%. I blew a CV at one stage, removed it and tried to drive out in various terrain modes. Drive comes and goes based on some variable, but what that was i couldn't narrow down.

Doesn’t unlock either - just reduces clamping pressure to allow minimal slip and prevent driveline windup and damage.

Rock crawl is really only for the slowest of the slow - a Crawl.... for scrambling up a steep rocky climb it is not the favoured selection.
