You're probably right but best to know these things.
It's pretty simple to release park brake and/or get gearbox into neutral.
Described in the "Problems" section of the FAQs here in the forum:

I keep a print out in the vehicle (just of the brake and gearbox release procedures).

Not in facelift models from either ‘13 or ‘14 onwards for either brake release or gearbox neutral. Says consult dealer to release from Park or release EPB!

Can’t say I have ever owned a vehicle who’s manual covers (a) what to do when the vehicle won’t come out of park, or (b) what to do when the park brake jams!

If it so simple I would have expected the roadside assist tech should have been able to do it without inflicting a further $600 worth of damage to the vehicle!

Exactly.

Almost all modern vehicles have this info in their manual. The Auto bloke should have either been aware of what to do, or taken the time to look in the book.

I have to say that the LR Assist people were extremely helpful. They organised for my Disco to be trucked to Townsville and paid for five days rental of a suitable 4x4 to allow us to continue our fishing adventure.

After a horror start, we had a great week's fishing, boating 102 barra in 5 days.

Fortunately, through my work, I have friends on the Barkly Tableland and was able to drop the boat off on the way back to Isa to return the rental, and I fly out in the morning.

Will be interesting to find out the cause of the problem and I look forward to getting my Disco back - less so to the 2600 km drive to retrieve my boat!

On the occasions you stopped the car and switched off the engine, was it your habit to move the gearchange selector/rotator into "PARK" yourself or did you allow the servo/solenoid/actuator or whatever it is called, on the rotator, to do it?
I am trying to determine/just a thought, if by chance this problem could be accentuated by allowing it to do the task?
What are others thoughts about this please, am I barking completely up the wrong tree? [bigwhistle]

No, I always put it in park, set the park brake, and then turn it off. I think its just one of those things that happens the tech manager says they have replaced a few only - not a regular occurance.

It’s the lock solenoid that fails anyway not the main rotary selector one. And the solenoid is fine it’s actually in the PCB.
