Hi Scott, did you go for the hydrabush of Heavy Duty bush version? Understand that the HD version is stronger, would this make the ride feel stiffer?
    Thanks

In the end I decided to go with the HD Meyle version. We are travelling the country for the next year or so and intending to go over plenty of remote/rough roads so thought that a good scenario for trying the heavy duty option. Ride so far seems pretty close to original for the small amount of city driving done. Real test coming soon ....

I would for shorter trips but the D4 is fully setup for travel and camping.

Meanwhile, at 190k my old girl has now had the LCAs done and 4x new air springs - and rides beautifully again. I bought her with 100k on the clock, so was likely on the original set, which means I hadn't, until now, experienced the D4 at it's best.

I must admit, it took a few days to really appreciate the difference though. Driving on a flat bit of tarmac doesn't highlight much, but when you hit a manhole cover, or a drain, it's a world apart.

What difference did you feel between old and new going over the manhole cover. Was it thudding/jarring, rolling all over the place, bouncy castle syndrome or what? I'm at 140,000km on my original shocks and wondering whether they need changing. I "think" I'm getting some jarring when hitting a hole compared to when new which may indicate they're on the way out. I'm hoping to do the Anne Beadell Hwy this year hence my need to diagnose if I have a shock problem.

Stand in the door way. Hold the roof and shake side to side.. Good shocks should be hard to start and the car should settle quickly. Then for reference do it on another

The jarring I didn’t realise I was experiencing all but vanished. And it then multiplies out to more than just one off bumps like these, to things like going over train tracks, or bumpy bits of road resulting from poor maintenance /pot holes etc. Cabin rattling is also notably less.

I guess it’s all feeling tighter, and akin to driving a new car. Take an old falcon taxi for a ride, then get back in your car and you kind of get what I’m saying (though my D4s worst ride was still a damn side better than a falcon taxi)
