So that doesn’t support what you said which is that the L320 was higher power than the D4. That shows that the L560 was higher power and torque. The wiki page for the L320 specified the same power and torque as the D4.
Anyhow, I’m being difficult.
While it lists a variant at 225kW and 700Nm for the Velar etc, and it’s probably the same engine components and ancillaries, is it worth it? They go pretty hard anyhow? There are people tuning them up to those levels though so I guess it’s possible.
It’s the L494 RRS that got the 225Kw/700Nm tune. This is when the 8-speed auto, which is rated to 700Nm, was fitted to them.
700Nm is the standard for tunes on the 3.0L, it's a safe level of torque, pushing it further than that is not wise. But it's also not a case of you'll snap a crank at 701Nm either.
The 6-speeds are fine with 700Nm, there are countless D4 & RRS out there with that level of torque. Actually the programmed limit in the TCM is 850Nm
I will emphasize that completely blanking the EGR's on a 3.0L is not a good idea, they have a dual-purpose, are also used to relieve manifold pressure when you get off the throttle.
So as part of the tune, the EGR function should be modified, not disabled.
The 2.7 is a different system, on those yes the EGR blanked/disabled is the norm, but I will say removing the throttle butterfly on a 2.7 is also not a good idea, it's the last line of defense against a diesel runaway...
Problem with not removing it Cameron on the 2.7 is it generates a vacuum under decel which increases other risks, drawing oil back up past the rings etc.
Agree that being able to shut the butterfly helps in runaway - though unlikely to prevent it.
Why?
I tow a 2.5T 6.5M boat more than 10,000 km each year and sit on the speed limit whenever its safe to do so - 100, 110, 130 kph. My 2015 TDV6 D4 tows it like its not there and I have never felt the need for more grunt. Mostly sits in 8th gear, drops to 7th when slightly up hill and 6th when a good pull is called for - very rarely 5th. Averages 17L/100km when towing the boat and 9km/100km without.
