changing oil companies do i need to flush the engine?

    Hello
i used to use castrol C1 professional mainly cause my indy used it and i used to get my car serviced there, but know i service the car myself. i am going to swap to Penrite enviro fully Synthetic C1, easier and cheaper to get.
seeing as i am changing companies do i need to flush the engine or just let it drain for an extra 30 min (warm Oil). before i refill it.
    Cheers

    Just drain, refill and go.

The engine doesn't care, and 'flushes' are more dangerous than anything IMO, especially solvent based ones.

How do you get it all out? (That's probably up to 500ml of oil left over after draining the sump)

The only way is multiple flushes with fresh engine oil.
In that case you may as well just do multiple drain and refills with fresh oil.
Which is what we do with industrial refrigeration plant after an adverse oil test.

This is a dilemma for me, Rick130. If I trust Penrite to provide the correct quality of oil for my D4, why shouldn't I trust their recommendation to flush at each change?

Does the manufacturer of the vehicle recommend a flush at each change?

For many years and hundreds of thousands kilometres I've always flushed engine oil then changed oil/filter.
Use either Penrite or Wynns flush.
Have seen video's showing benefits of flushing and is impressive.

Wife's Subaru has almost 300,000 klms and doesn't use a drop of oil between 5,000 klm changes, nor does my 3.0 non turbo Hilux 4WD at 530 something thousand klms. Disco at 144,000 odd, also.
Use Castrol GTX 20/50 in Suby, Penrite Enviro C1 Plus in Disco and Komatsu (Castrol) 15/40 in Hilux.

Always use Wynns engine oil additive as well. (shouldn't have said that as not wanting to start another "discussion"! Forget I ever mentioned it! )

If we listened to the manufacturer we wouldn't be changing auto oil at circa 80-100k!!
Does the manufacturer recommend changing out the coolant housing in "V" every circa 110k for preventative m/ance?
    ...and on it goes.
You're either a fan of flushing oil, and oil additives, or not.

They are just hoping you buy their flushing fluid.

On a side note,we have had numerous Jap work vans do over 300 000K,both petrol, petrol on LPG,and diesel, just change oil and filter every 10 000Km,dealer serviced, not one ever used a drop of oil.
    No additives,no flushing.

Only time I will ever use flush -

When a head gasket has failed and I want the block cleaned.

The only other time was in my youth, flushed a new to me car - it killed it, rattled like mad afterwards.

    So much irony.

If the manufacturer doesnt recommend it at their service intervals, don't bother, they've done the research and analysis already. Maybe they have a reason for not flushing, maybe 0.5l of left over oil is better in the engine than 0.5l of left over flush, maybe basically everything drains out with a filter change, maybe it doesn't make a real difference, or maybe the value isn't returned from flushing, who knows. Make sure you respect the manufacturers opinion too, it's probably based on more evidence than any other bit of evidence.

The evidence of marketing I suspect. To me the most important thing is to change the oil while its still hot. This makes sure any contaminants are well and truly suspended in the oil and will be removed with the oil drain.
