Yes. Endless videos. Just go to google and, guess what, Google.
It’s not easy, and no sane person would, unless they were broke DIY and had no choice

My crank recently snapped too. Local indy quoted $24k for engine swap for another sdv6 engine with 87k on it. They advised against rebuild with new crank as when the crank goes it makes a lot of metal fragments which go with oil everywhere throughout the engine including turbo and are very difficult to remove and the cost ends up not much less than engine swap.
In the end I was one of the lucky ones and JLR agreed to provide new long motor and I paid for installation only.

How much? They’re taking the ****!
A brand new motor is sub $18k. Fitting at $130/hr will only be a week $4,900
If a rebuilder can’t clear metal during a rebuild they aren’t worth your coin.
What people should be doing is one thing but what are rebuilds, fitted, costing people? I suspect not much change out of $20k plus (whether it should cost less is moot if you can't actually get it done for less)? Cheers
PS. And usually rebuilds get at most 12m limited kilometre warranty so you have to be content with that too...
I have seen a fair few write ups on the 2.7 and some videos on the petrol engine with body on, but none specifically on the 3.0 litre engine with body on. I know the engines are different but don’t know how different - external dimensions same/different etc.
the thought is to remove a used engine from a donor wreck this way and have the Indi change over in my vehicle.
What have people paid for the labour component for an engine change over in the D4?
You could fit an engine from a wreck and have same problem only weeks, months, or a year later!
Just because it's new to you doesn't make it a "new" engine so to speak.
You'd certainly need to know the SH engine's full service history and be satisfied that it was in excellent order.
You'd be far better off spending the extra coin and going a reco or new engine, otherwise you could find yourself paying twice for the job.
Once you have gotten over the initial shock of the extra expense for the new engine at least you'll have peace of mind and your wallet will be feeling better by knowing that your engine will last a whole lot longer than any SH engine would.
Thanks Tombie!
I was looking at the Eric one - Used Car Warranties | Motor Vehicle Warranty Insurance | eric
top cover doesn't seem to have a limit beyond overall vehicle value?
Apologies for hijacking this thread - just put a deposit down on a 2016 D4 and wondering what to do!
