Any excuse for a new car. It’s all about the reason to justify.

And for the record, in any car the IID is fine like Patrick said to be plugged in during use. Fix the issue, don’t make excuses for it. “I once bumped my head when I was walking. I’m never walking again”. Rather than looking where I’m going? Losing All electrics after trying to insert GAP Tool

Actually the real reason for keeping GAP Diagnostics informed is to help pass on the experience if someone else is unable to re-start the car after the electronics going haywire on insertion of the GAP tool.

That is - for the D4 with the keyless vehicle module to remove fuse 17 for a few minutes if a hard reset does not work.

I have since read this on other forums - sometimes a hard reset works and sometimes removing fuse 17 works.

Of course you will now be able to search for the answer here on AULRO thanks to Gavin and Darren. Losing All electrics after trying to insert GAP Tool

(And don’t do what Gavin did! - i.e. insert GAP tool potentially on an angle when driving).

"(And don’t do what Gavin did! - i.e. insert GAP tool potentially on an angle when driving)" Just what I said Gavin. Stop fiddling with things and concentrate on your driving...... it can only improve. And you wouldn't have an upset wife to please with a possible change of vehicles either.

C'mon tombie, Gav n Mrs Gav want a my16 disco as a replacement.. He's already asking questions. It's not like he's gunna buy a Toyota Fortuner as a replacement.

Gav, I've had your thoughts..I love mine and can't bear the thought of relearning that love again (or the cost).. I'm gunna keep mine, and think of every new fault as a milestone in our relationship. Like all relationships Gav.. Be gentle and don't force your pin into the socket!

Regardless of issues or not, my better half still does not like the "Lego Car" but it has always gotten us home and has taken all over this wide brown land.

I just “invested” another grand in mine for the CarPlay kit from Cambo. I’m hanging onto it a while longer. Plus it’s a grand to touch the mobile in the car so I’m looking at it as an investment in my first fine. I get something for it this way

Yep. This is a terrible way for Dazza to about to find out that he has a new car to play with, but have just bought a local 16.5? (1 Jan 2016) unmolested TDV6 with 50K on the clock and in immaculate condition. The 2.7 rides better/softer, and has lots of goodies, but at 280K (even though a high proportion was highway km) was getting a bit long in the tooth for a non mechanic like me to take the bride away with peace of mind for her.

So now to find an appreciative owner for the much loved and cossetted (except when towing the brick) 2.7L

Oh and I'm trying out the 5 year extended warranty plan for the first time in my life - silly bugger!

RRC MY95 LSE Vogue Softdash "Bessie" with MY99 TD5 and 4HP24 transplants
SADLY SOLD MY04 D2a TD5 auto and MY10 D4 2.7 both with lots of goodies

There’s a silicone dielectric grease joke in there somewhere.
