~$80/L here from LR last time I bought it.

I found it once before (as a previous post shows) but I didn’t post the link where I found it damnit, and my searches now turn up nothing so without evidence I’ll declare it not suitable, until I can prove otherwise. I do remember reading it, not believing it, doing the research and disproving myself, hence why it’s front of mind to me.
Just go Ravenol or RP if you can’t order LR fluid.
I'd like to know why anyone running syncromax or LG6 in their transfer case thinks its fine?
I'm going to call in at a LR stealer on my way to Perth next week and get the genuine oil.
The oil must have an additive package suitable to cope with a variable pressure wet clutch pack as well as the usual bits , it's the same reason the oil for the e diffs is a different spec. ( maybe Rick 130 would know what the additive might be )
Either genuine oil or ravenol tf-0870 ( which you can get from Imparts Osbourne park if you're in Perth and is probably a bit cheaper)
SHELL TF0735 is the approved spec for use in these MagnaSteyr transfer cases with a wet clutch pack. RP meets the shell spec, as does ravenol and other various BMW specced oils.
Ergo to me its good to go, plus the last 45000km running RP synchromax and performing as expected, without it blowing up also tells me something is ok.
Each to their own, but in my view the LR "special oil" is overrated and overpriced, its just a transfer case.
Personally I've only used the genuine Land Rover product. I just felt that while it's a rip off at per litre pricing, I can live with it as the overall quantity required is not huge and the cost of a replacement/rebuilt transfer case far exceeds the comparative minor cost savings. Personally I've found that not all the old oil drains out, and it only takes 1.5L to refill, so three bottles gets to drain and refills.
It's Land Rover Special Transfer Box Oil (this is actually what's written on the label). According to my Microcat, the Part number is IYK500010 for up to Discovery 4 VIN EA000001, then it's LR048849. I don't think this is 100% correct though as I think the later part number is only for the 1 speed transfer boxes and is the Castrol BOT 850 oil.
According to a number of the UK part suppliers, the OEM supplier for this oil (IYK500010) is Ravenol Transfer Fluid TF-0870. Although another has claimed it is S-Tec ITC Transmission Oil (I think OIL0002 part number).
Here in Australia I've found our local LR dealer charges around $80 - 90 per litre. What are people paying for the alternative products (e.g. Royal Purple) locally?
In the UK the genuine product is only a 20% price premium over the OEM oils. The price for the genuine product is around half of the local cost but I'm not sure what freight costs would be or if there would be issues with carriers carting oil.
