Dull knock from rear- Discovery 4

    Hi All,

I am the proud owner of a 2015 Discovery 4, and for the past few weeks a single dull knock has developed coming from the rear of the car everytime I accelerate past ~15kmh. I have tried putting the engine into manual and keeping it in 1st gear and the knock still occurs. It also repeatedly knocks if I accelerate at a low-ish speed uphill. DOesnt appear to be suspension related.

I have it booked into the authorised LR Service station tomorrow and am nervous of the cost (having been made redundant for the past 9 months). Anyone have any advice and any ideas as to what the issue is and ....dare I say, how much it is likely to cost me?

    Thanks for your assistance.

    A nervous new forum member.

Happened to me once. I found out that one of my grandsons had put an item in the rear most seat "Cup-holders". Every time I accelerated, the item rolled around and made a knocking noise.

THanks Briar- been down that path and checked the back and the spare tyre. It seems to be transmission related....unfortunately.

I would be looking at the tailshaft center bearing, get under and see if you can grab the shaft and wobble it or look at the rubber surrounding the bearing in the mount.

Welcome along to Discovery ownership and all the joys that brings....
Great cars, but they love their tlc.

Id be checking, or having LR agent, check rear sway bar bushes, if never changed, the rubber bush wears out and the sway bar then hits the mount or chassis rail if theres any slack.

As said, also check rear prop shaft centre bearing and mount, but if thats gone, its like a constant rattle, not a clunk.

Let us know how you get on and what the diagnosis is.
