Disco 3 assembly

More on my electrical woes.
Today I checked wiring continuity on EPB system - all good, which led me to suspect either an instrument cluster or EPB module fault. I connected my spare EPB module and no amber parkbrake fault light!
I then reconnected the original EPB module and still no fault light. Have I somehow erased a latched fault?
I've since operated the EPB half a dozen times and can't reproduce the fault light - happy days.
The only down side is that my suspension fault light is back with the RH height sensor message. I'm suspecting that the connectors in the LH rear wheel arch may have dirty pins as that is the only part of the suspension system that I have disturbed.
These machines can be a bit sensitive!!

There are cases where the pins push out of the plug so check they are all correctly seated.

Found a broken canbus wire today in the LH rear wheel arch. hopefully repairing this will make all of the problems go away.

If this is an honest question:

- it’s the network all the car’s components communicate with each other on. There’s a low speed one and a high speed one. Shorts or breaks in this cause all sorts of faults and random errors

Never knew that.

So is the low speed one also a backup for the high speed one or vice versa?

Does one need 2 canbuses so they can converse between each other before they can get all the car's components to communicate?

They are, after all, components of the car.

No. Different systems communicate on the different busses. The low speed version is fault tolerant and thus likely supports system communications that are safety relevant. I haven’t actually looked at the Disco wiring harness to see what’s connected where.

In the 1980's I watched a doco on computer chip design where it was revealed that things had 'progressed' to such a stage that no human could design the 'then' latest chips........... they were all done by using a computer.

Drove past a tilt truck loading a D4 on the back the other day, out the front of a non LR Indi joint that has all the diag tools. They presumably couldn't figure it out, unless it was something simple like a snapped crank.

Thanks for this. Ive just bought a V8 2005 D3 HSE with a lot of very similar issues. I'm trying to order a gap tool now. Ive sorted out the drivers side water ingress problem (sun roof drain and the pillar external trim, God they let in a lot of water dont they) and I'm hoping to start the passenger side tomorrow afternoon, if I can figure out how to get that glove box out.

It seems to me so far that replacing globes, switches and checking for corrosion doesn't solve anything until I get the gap tool to knock off some faults. At least mine starts but after I shut it down, all the electrics come back on, so I have to disconnect the battery at night. Mine also drives but only in low range. I seem to have suspension, steering angle sensor, transmission, transfer case and park brake problems, but I suspect once I get the tool, I will be able to clear most of these and start finding the real issues.

I'm three days into this journey, looking forward to getting my bargain on the road and seeing what it can do.

I appreciate the thread and will watch with interest.
