Took the front timing cover off today. Sure enough, the oil pump is the early type without the reinforced ribs around the the tensioner boss. I've ordered the pump, idler pulleys and a couple of other bits from LR Direct in the UK. I shouldn't need too many more parts - I hope!

How much was the pump, local ford dealer is usually cheaper than the LR item.

The pump from LR Direct costs $210 and is the latest part number LR123716. Jefferson Ford in Melbourne are offering an earlier series pump for $212.46. So the main difference is postage but I'm buying a few more parts which will compensate for that.

    Disco 3 assembly

I noticed the price of the genuine Ford pump went up when LR part suppliers in the UK started offering the FoMoCo pump as an OEM alternative to the LR genuine pump (same pump - different box).

Not sure if it is funny or sad that a Ford part can be offered as a “cheaper” OEM equivalent to the so called genuine LR part.

I think LR123716 is about the 7th variation of this pump.

Finally finished my oil pump/timing belt changes. No warnings on startup! I did note that, with the new oil pump, the oil pressure light is extinguished sooner than previously.
I filled the coolant system with a 30 percent strength mix of Burson coolant. I feel that our conditions don't warrant a 50/50 mix.

Why not? It’s 45 degrees here, something to minimise risk of boiling must be a good thing?

The coolant doesn't assist with cooling, it is mainly anti corrosion and anti freeze.

It raises the boiling temp so yes it does.
