I would suspect an ABS wheel speed sensor fault. The fault codes need to be read.

Codes. We need codes

Simple checks would be (in absence of code reader):

Battery terminals secure?
Age of battery?
Charge condition?

How many Km? If around 150k on, has it had alternator replaced yet? (It’s going to fail very soon)

Yes, the problem is that there were no faults! They put the scanner on it and there was no record of any faults. So weird. I even took a photo to show but the scanner showed nothing. That’s why they were thinking it might be a battery on the way out.

What scanner? Many can’t get into the root of the system.

NO idea on alternator. Bought the car second hand and have service history but no real view as to replaced parts. I started to think it might be alternator.

Battery is not the original one, no idea when it was last replaced.

They used the big scanner at the service place so I’m sure a Pro tool would pick everything up.

Voltage on the battery sitting out in the drive is 12.71. Not sure whether that’s a good reading or not.

What about the the old brake pedal switch, that can bring up a lot of weird faults, and it is pro'ly worth buying one to carry as a spare anyway?

Oh yes I remember reading about this somewhere. It’s really annoying that a car like this can throw all these sorts of faults from things like bulbs and switches. Come on seriously. There are obviously no real faults with the ABS etc as on restart the errors go away and I can drive normally. I am losing trust in this car. I don’t want a car that fails like this from a non-fault. Most other cars if you have something like this still allow you to drive normally.

An intermittent fault can easily not exist on a restart in which case the faults need to be read before switching off the ignition, although a LR specific reader should still show old uncleared faults.
A faulty wheel speed sensor generates an ABS fault which WILL cause all the other faults and conditions.

Check behind the left front wheel in case the wiring harness has pulled away from its plastic clips and has been rubbed by the inside edge of the tyre.
