    Hey Guys

I to, am up for a new Windscreen. Is there anywhere in the Newcastle area that you can recommend to fit one.

I think I would go for the Genuine Screen.

I have concerns about the intricacies regarding the fitting, so someone who has done them before and knows what has to be done would help.

I recently had the D4 windscreen replaced. The Insurance company RACV refused to provide genuine due to the age of the vehicle (MY2013) and O'Briens fitted a Pilkington which looks identical to original. I am very happy with the fitting and auto wipers work exactly as previously. A good experience at zero cost despite early trepidation at non-genuine glass.

I have just had a Pilkington replacement, same but no LR on the brand.
No problem with the screen but I had insisted on LR clips being fitted to the trim. It turned out that the clips were the same as OEM but not branded.
Had to take it back because it was noisy and the right hand side trim rattled like buggery. O'briens sourced and fitted the correct clips and no more noise or rattles.
Insist on LR trim clips and all should be well.

Got one done at Tomago recently. Aftermarket but it's fine I'll find his direct number.

Previous owner of mine had some aftermarket one fitted, brand XYG, seems some Chinese one from O’Briens. It’s clear, works, but can’t say how it compares to genuine Replacement windscreen - anyone gone with non-genuine, if so, how was it?

Having done a search through here on windscreen replacements there's post after post about replacing with genuine windscreens (Pilkington Opticool) and how to get your insurance company to do so. There's a number of posts about the issues that current D3/4 owners had with non-genuine Windscreens in their D2's. But I've only found two posts from someone who actually went the non-genuine route which read:

    and

Interested to hear anyone elses experiences of non-genuine front windscreen replacements.
David from Fremantle; I had a non genuine screen replaced some 6 years ago, glass has performed well plus taken the obligatory stone, with out any noticeable damage. BUT, two faults issue arose. First to replace the screen the internal decorative trim on each side of the screen need to be removed and close inspection reveals the plastic push clips should have a small rubber washer which sits between the back of the clip and the door pillar, which I did not notice until some months later when it started raining water ended up in the passenger foot well. The window replacement company attended to rectify by replacing the whole window, to which I declined and suggested we replace the clips, job solved. Second, the sensor for the windscreen wipers is located in front of the mirror, glued to the windscreen, to switch the wipers on and off and adjust the speed. The windscreen replacement I found had a faulty sensor, or rather was not attached properly, as an air bubble is very apparent on close inspection. This means the sensor works some of the time but not always. So I am waiting for the stone clip to allow me to replace again. Both issues can be checked by attention to detail.

Read the posts in this thread - it is all about getting experiences with non original windscreens.

My is a Pilkington Opticool without the LR logo, supplied by O'Brien. No discernible difference from original. I wouldn't pay $1 more for a genuine one.

You do realise that LR do not actually make windscreens so a Pilkington Opticool with or without the LR logo is a genuine item. LR logo is probably etched on after production.

Yes, I'm aware that Land Rover don't make the windscreens/vehicle glass, that's why it has Pilkington on it . The discussion is about paying extra for a 'Genuine' screen vs a cheaper 'Non genuine' (any number of non LR supplied options).

I understand that the Pilkington Opticool is the same screen but I reckon (and I am guessing as I can't be bother calling to confirm) it's cheaper than buying one from LR.
