    D3 EAS C1130-66 fault

Trucking into town this morning, got the bong and amber suspension light. Fault :

C1130-66 (AF) Air spring air supply - Algorithm based failure - signal has too many transitions/events
    ( on 18-08-2021 10:27:38 at 198154 km )
    - Test Failed
    - Test Failed This Monitoring Cycle
    - Confirmed
    - Test Failed Since Last Clear
    - MIL Requested

I cleared it on the fly and watched the suspension parameters on the IID. I noticed the Gallery pressure very slowly but steadily increasing, then it'd drop (I suppose it was vented out the exhaust valve). This was toward the end of a ~350km drive, so it's probably happened a few times over the preceding couple of hours. The compressor temp was ambient, so that hadn't run recently and the heights were all about right.

Talking it through, as that's the only fault and it's all still working I *assume* that one of the valve blocks is leaking and slowly letting air back into the gallery. Checking the schematic, I suppose that could be any of the 4 corner valves or the reservoir control valve.

I have noticed in the last couple of months it has tended to drop a bit overnight, but I've not had a long enough idle period to do a static test for more than about 18 hours, and it's not leaking that fast.

I figure if it was a bag, pipe or coupling I wouldn't see the gallery pressure *rising*, so I'm probably pretty safe there. It's probably time to do the desiccant anyway, and I'll order a set of valve block seals.

I notice XR8 do the desiccant and cap, but 4x4airseals do that and the valve block seals as a kit. What has been the experience with either of those vendors, and is there someone better to get the gear from?

XR8 gear and service has been an "OK" experience for me - havent used 4X4airseals so cannot comment there.
Interesting to find out what condition the dessicant was in when you get around to pulling it apart.

4x4 was quick and easy to deal with.

I have kits sitting here for when mine need them.

I know it had a new compressor in about 2015 and it has done less than 60k since then, so it'll be interesting.

X8R kit is good, no issues, plus they do the alloy drier cap.

I've used both, I prefer the 4x4 air seals videos. The 4x4 air seals pricing is better in their page rather then eBay

It did it again on the way home from Albany, so it looks like if I drive without stopping for over 3 hours it cycles enough in that time to trigger the fault. Shorter than that and it doesn’t happen.

Watching it closely the gallery pressure slowly (over 10-20 minutes) creeps up to 5 bar and it then vents back down to ~2.3 bar. Lather, rinse, repeat. The vehicle hasn’t levelled since I started it this morning and I’m sitting in a car park with the key out watching the suspension numbers. Heights are not moving but the gallery pressure is slowly increasing.

I just need to whip the cover off on the weekend and confirm which compressor I actually have. Software says Hitachi, but given all the other stuff that’s happened to this car it could be anything. Decided to go with the 4x4 kit as XR8 don’t do the valve block seal kit. Let’s see.

Wonder how long this has been going on? Usually I have the family in the car, so it’s never more than an hour between wee stops.

Edit: the cycle is 14 minutes with whatever is in the reservoir right now, so the threshold is probably about 10 cycles(ish).

It will get to the stage where you will get a bong about 30 seconds after driving off , then you know it's time to rebuild it.

Well, I was told the compressor had been replaced, and it had! A genuine Land Rover branded Hitachi made in Japan. Could have knocked me over with a feather. Then I noticed the reservoir / gallery valve not clipped into its location, but held in the wiring harness with cable ties. Situation normal then.

So I'll order a desiccant rebuild with a new cap and a set of valve block seals and manage that when it arrives.

Definitely a slow leak on the front end.

A 23 second timelapse of 50 hours of drop:

    http://www.fnarfbargle.com/private/2...p_Leak/out.mp4

It's losing about 25mm over 24 hours, but it's dead even on the front end which makes me suspect the valve block rather than an air-bag. I figure it has to be 2 valves, either both sides or one side and the link valve. Otherwise it'd tilt.

So with a leak in the front, and a leak in the center valve I suppose contamination is the likely outcome. Rebuild kits are on the way, but I thought I'd take the time to do an actual test to get more of an idea as to what is going on.

With it at offroad height at the back and access height on the front it has a jaunty dragster slope.
