I have wondered about front uppers, given condition of rear uppers per this thread and mine being into second replacement set for front lowers.

Upper control arms today, front was easy, two bolts and a ball joint each side. Jack to approximate ride height to undo and also to torque to spec. No need to undo struts or anything. Bushes not as bad as Scott's, but still buggered.

Rears a different story. Have to break into the brake lines to get the arms out, no room whatsoever for bolts to fit a socket or breaker bar. Rear bolt was stuck fast in the rear bush, the entire rubber had separated from the outer bush. Took me 3 hours to get the bolt out, no room to cut just had to persist with a single open ended spanner. Install is much easier, with a bit of inventive manipulation you can get a torque wrench to them. Will finish off tomorrow as still have to bleed brakes.Attachment 174964

Edit 8/11: finished off the rear drivers side last night, no stuck bolts in that one, swapped it out in 20min. Put everything back together and went for a drive, what a difference! Only rear lowers to do now and she'll be golden...

Any particular symptoms resolved Eric? Or just an overal ‘tightness’ back?

Ride harshness resolved, steering wobble under braking pretty much gone (only thing left that causes that is front hubs or steering rods, and the latter have no slop in them whatsoever).

No bump harshness when turning into a driveway or onto a kerb, general improved handling. Well worth the effort.

Once lower rears are done I will be happy.
