It's not a hill hold is it?
My Audi also holds the brakes, but I'd only noticed it stops the car rolling backward due to the dual clutch transmission not holding on hills as it is more of a computer controlled manual gearbox rather than an auto.
Brakes Binding, or Safety Feature?
When I carefully back the D4 into my garage, each time I take my foot off the brakes intending to "idle" rearwards, there is a short but definite hesitation until the brakes release.
I have become used to it/quite like it but unsure if it is a quasi safety feature, or as my trusty spanner man intimated, possibly an adjustment issue with my EPB.
Comments from the wise? Car has only done 60K km and virtually all urban running.

My 2012 VW transporter does the same thing
Hill start control I think the technical term for it
Holds for about 4-5 seconds or realeases when you take your foot off the clutch
It’s caught out the apprentices over the years, one of them couldn’t work out what was happening and stuck his head under the steering wheel to check the pedals an the hand brake
The car started rolling and he had his head stuck
Lucky for him the hill tapered out quickly and there was a forklift parked up that stopped him

Should not be the EPB Gav, as you need to physically pull up the switch to engage it. Could be a hill start type feature. I don't know if the later D4s have this. And this should not activate if you're on level ground as your garage would be I'd? I'd be checking the caliper slides anyway, could be a pad sticking.
My MY14 does the same. Our drive slopes up to the garage and we reverse park. It results in a bit of a jerky manoeuvre.

Yes, I do the same thing particularly as our driveway has slight uphill slope to back the camper up.
However re the original post- it does sound like 'hill hold' assist. Interestingly my previous D4 did the same thing sometimes on the flat part of my garage but there was nothing wrong with it. I just got used to it. For down hill starts there is Gradient Release Control in the D4 too.
In my new Defender it has a similar feature where it does momentarily hold the brakes on a flat surface if you push firmly on the pedal first. I don't remember if my D4 only did it with firm brake pedal pressure on a flat surface. It did it on a slope regardless of pedal pressure.
