Cleaning Prior to Installing New Oil Cooler Has Created Major Issues

My diligence in removing oil and cooling liquid from the engine valley has created a nightmare, vehicle prior to commencing this project was running fine except for oil leakage.

The following DTCs are now evident:

P0330 Heater Cct Bank A Short
    P0030 Heater Control Bank 1 Sensor 1
P0030 Bank 1 Sensor 1 Short to Battery
    P0105 Manifold Pressure
    P0107 Manifold Pressure Low

Probably a big ask, where should I be looking for wiring harness and connector damage or other possible causes?
Vehicle starts and runs however is displaying Reduced Performance

The sensor short to battery is likely to be no earth for the sensor.

There isn't a connector in the harness to the MAP sensor as it's a direct connection to the ECM.

Cleaning Prior to Installing New Oil Cooler Has Created Major Issues

Can I ask since I’m doing this soon when you did the clean up? Did you try to wash it out or blast degreaser before disassembly or after disassembly? I was thinking prior with a very careful hose out to clean the valley as much as possible.

Maybe ragging it out is the way to go.

Perhaps the intake connection is not correct and you have a vacuum leak. I’ve got new o rings for all the manifold connections.

How do you know it’s related? Did you clean and then start it to confirm the issue or did you clean, disassemble, reassemble then experience the issue, conflating the two scenarios?

Prior to disassembly I sprayed the engine valley area with degreaser and used an air pistol to distribute and disperse, I had been warned to not apply water in this area. After removal of the components to gain access to remove the cooler I blocked off all penetrations. Removed the cooler and blocked off the penetrations exposed, blew the majority of oil and coolant out the back of the valley, mopping up the residual.

Final light spray with degreaser and blow down to disperse.

I think your on the right track to rag out all liquids.

Vehicle was running normally other than oil leak prior to commencing. After cleaning, disassembly and further cleaning plus reassembly I started the engine to apply the recommended process to refill the coolant. I also did an oil and filter change. Dash displayed engine fault icons and "Reduced Performance".

My OB2 reader is in the post, a good friend lent me his VDO reader and this enabled me to identify the DFCs.

I have yet to establish if I have a unserviceable sensor or just a contaminated connector.

Process to rectify is on going and will not be concluded until I have my reader in my hot hands.

I have a persistent oil weep from the top of the engine. Invisible if looking from the top.

Looking from underneath It drips down at back of the engine over the drivers side of the transmission and down the pipes to the fuel cooler ending in a drip from the bottom of the bellhousing over the sway bar. It’s been there for ages and only a weep so I’m hoping the oil cooler will be a likely culprit.

I would say you are on track considering that your oil cooler is leaking. The seals in these things set like concrete and no longer seal. Dont leave it too late the next scenario is you will have oil in your coolant.

Hi all, is there an accepted mileage that we should be changing oil cooler as part of preventative maintenance? Or is it just wait until we find a leak?

Good luck with your fault finding efforts Gravy, hopefully you reach a solution soon. 👍

Abouts 250k kms is rule of thumb from my reading or on your second timing belt change on a years time basis.

I’m bang on both so going to do the fuel pump belt during the disassembly process for the oil cooler (and hopefully delete some EGR cooling pipe work pending Tombie’s pilot project) and then do timing and accessory belt and water pump as a seperate procedure.

Think I will stick with brake cleaner and rags on the degreasing side.
