If I can give some advice (or a shameless plug), have a look at my D4 in the AULRO marketplace section….

    Me Too

I am finally being pressed into action to replace my 2007 LR3 with a LR4. I have previously posted about an option under the '7-year service' thread and thank you to those who have provided sound advice there, such that I will still go through with my independent LR specialist to look at it on Monday (and if he has significant concerns then I will bail as per contract condition).

In the mean time (and bit spooked having not slept well), I have been mulling over the higher price - low km - full service record balance versus the opposite. I won't be pulling a caravan/bush camper (we both are tent folk) but as a representative of the tall timber people, patrols/land cruisers are not comfortable for me (and for soooo many other reasons) it has always been the LR4 that may be may last vehicle (tall and older). These below catch my eye - and accepting the premium price market i find myself - any other thoughts?

A tall man myself, I recently upgraded our manual seats to HSE seat, and found them far far more comfortable. The armrest is brilliant too. Not sure it is worth the $15k premium if that is the only benefit you value (ie, beyond the rear AC, and other 'nice to haves' of the HSE)

I looked at the first one in your list as well, but bought one with 3rd row aircon which that one didn't have (but is standard on the second link, the HSE).

What I found is that many 7 seaters are listed as 5 seaters and many of the added options on a TDV6 are not listed in the specifications. If you're after a 7 seater you'd better check the photos of seat belts in the rear instead of filtering on '7 seats'. Similarly, if you want the Meridian sound system in a TDV6 then look for photos of the larger colour screen (usually there's photos of a rear camera view or sat nav). When it has the larger colour screen it will have Meridian audio. For 3rd row aircon, you can check for the console above the 2nd row of seats having 3 black controls, or look at the vents in the C pillar (should be able to see these in a photo of the boot).

I can happily live with a base spec TDV6 but with some added options that aren't possible (or difficult) to retrofit. For me these options were 7 seats, 3rd row aircon, Meridian audio system and ideally roof rails. The latter should be easy to add but when I did that on my 2011 TDV6 3 years after I bought it, the screw holes had rust in them - complicating the install a little. Xenon lights can be added (but cost a bit) easily.

I'd suggest you do something similar and find cars that match your spec. And HSE will have everything I listed above, SE has Meridian and Xenon headlights, 7 seats but not 3rd row aircon nor roof rails. TDV6 you'd need to scan the photos if there are no details in the specifications. And ask for additional photos if you can't see anything you want.

    Happy hunting!

Having gone through the process of buying a D4 a couple of months ago can agree it's a difficult proposition weighing up milage vs cost.
Out of the lmited options in WA I ended up going to for best milage that had no more than 15k service intervals. Very hard to get a straight answer from the dealers so was happy to buy private from 1st owner who could tell me the history of the car & provide full service records.

We went with a top range model - was only a few thousand more than a TDV6 & meant we got all the options we wanted (except rear diff - not many of those).

Have you looked at cars on autotrader? They tend to include VIN numbers on the ads that can be seached on the LR OSH website.

Just throw a cat amonst the pidgeons - I had a pajero before the D4 - bought from my uncle who's 6'5" & was very happy with it accomodating the extra tall. Obviously not a nice as a D4 but was roomy & reliable (and they're cheaper than the direct competition). Pity Mitsubishi decided to discontinue them like LR did with the D3/D4 design.

Hey Veebs can I ask what sort of cost it is to swap out your seats for HSE? I’ve been thinking about it as our front seats have become quite hard and after 2 hours of driving you really start to feel it. Thanks

I ended up buying a set from TRS in South Australia - about $1600 shipped to me in WA. I then onsold my old seats for $200 - may have been able to get more, but wanted a fast sale as they were in the way.

Not the cheapest exercise, and I lusted after some of the options ex UK (heated, some had rear entertainment etc) - puchase prices substantially lower but shipping made it prohibitive (5 figures).

One note, I did a bit of reading on it, and the seats I have, which are electric, but non-memory are easily added. I needed to add in the seatbelt pre-tensioner (the seats didn't come with it, so just direct swap from my old seats) and run it's cable in to the plug under the seat. The car then recognised everything 'plug and play' (D4 to D4). A lot of literature on D4 seats into a D3, which isn't really relevant.
If you go for memory seats, the answer was less clear, so I avoided. You potentially need to tap in to the canbus to enable more than 'bursts' of movement, plus add buttons to the doorcard (the M123 buttons next to unlock/lock) - it all got a bit much, and given I had no use for memory anyway, I skipped it. No regrets.

Many thanks to you guys for the advice. I ended up with the late build 2015 with 102k from the LR dealer after my indie inspected it this morning. Last year it had replaced front & rear brake pads and discs, and front lower control arms. Got a 27 month mechanical plan warranty and enough off the asking price to cover replacement of camshaft drive belt and tensioner, full auto transmission service, top coolant outlet change by my indie. So deal done.
