PD - you never answered how many kms your current pump has done since last changed, but I personally subscribe to the “replace with every timing belt change” theory. But clearly stick with the FoMoCo pump and not an aftermarket pump.

Even Fabian’s pump which had been replaced not that long ago was the smaller capacity pump so just because it has been replaced before is no guarantee it has the higher flow capacity. The increased flow capacity must have been a late update in time for the 3.0L.

Original change was around 120kms (+7yrs) and now have 256k kms (+7yrs). Was upgraded to latest LR pump at the time in 2014. Today I would buy from Ford so assume it would be what all the Territories have.

Looks like another hour at least on top of the TB change but the oil seal insertion worries me without the tool.

An insertion tool and guide are easily made if you have access to a lathe.

    It’s a tough call.

My vehicle has a full LR service history to end of warranty.
From that point on all servicing has been done by me.

In between all LR services I did intermediate servicing.

So for its life my vehicle has had double the services and lots of TLC Major (7yr) service costs

I saw recently someone posted a list of comparative LR vs Ford engine part prices. Now I can’t find it. Can anyone remember where it is?

A day later and LR sent me a 'history listing":
    • purchased probably 11/2015.
    • 02/2018 - LR warranty claim - odo 76,200 km - 2nd turbo replaced.
    • 02/2019 - odo 84,851 km - 48 month service. Notes: brake pads/discs to be replaced next service; 'slight' knock in lower control arms noted.
    • 02/2020 - odo 93,984 km - 60 month service, brake fluid flush, 4 tyres replaced. Notes: RH rocker cover leaking oil. Also, what is a 'customer care' inspection?
    • 03/2021 - odo 102,748 km - 72 month service.
    • Between last service and following one, I suspect it was traded in to LR as the service sheet notes all internal charges ($8,965) and nothing attributed to customer expense on final history sheet.
    • 09/2021 - odo 102,756 km. Replaced: high pressure power steering hose; front lower control arms; RH valve cover gasket; front and rear brake pads and discs.

I can't quite work out the pattern to using a combination of LR and (hopefully) an independent. I found out the suburb where the previous owner lived - silver-tail part of Brisbane - so they were unlikely to be scrimping on costs. Just baffled - why would you not use LR warranty service in the first 4 years of your purchase? I have put a deposit down and sale subject to the satisfaction of my independent who has serviced my D3 for at least a decade now.

Any thing jump out from the above that I should be thinking about regarding previous treatment-related near-future expenses? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Sandy - unless the seller can provide evidence of the missing servicing you have to play it safe and assume they have not been done. Even if using an Indi, they would be provided with invoices to prove what work was done.

As you point out - strange there is no record prior to 76,200kms.

The only time I have seen a lack of service records on a new vehicle was for ex-Government leased vehicles and ex-Rentals. In both cases it is common for new vehicles not to be serviced during the first few years.

Sandy, I'd be worried. My late 2013 build D4 has had nothing replaced beyond service items and a rear tailgate actuator (by me). Currently sitting at 123,000kms. Send me the VIN and I'll see what I can find out.

Unfortunately the vehicle is being sold by the dealer (LR here in Brisbane) and they do not have access to the previous owner (who I suspect traded it in).
