From the WSM - fault code causes.
Realising that the D3 can generate lots of unrelated faults so this could just be a total coincidence - but at least 8 of the above fault codes can be caused by a short circuit to ground.
There are 4 EGR related faults, a Turbo boost control fault, a Viscous Fan fault, and two Crankshaft Position Sensor faults all which could be due to individual sensor failures or a short circuit to ground.
Ideally now you want to be able to clear all faults, then see which comes back first.
The crankshaft position sensor though should be the only fault in that list that stops the engine running.
Check the wiring schematic, they could be on a common power supply, one short can take down multiple circuits, giving you all those faults
Check all the engine bay fuses and fusible links too.
The sensor earths are provided by the ecm so possibly a fault with one of the ecm earths.
Sorry to be old fashioned, but suck, squeeze, bang and blow was pretty easy to diagnose. It's when they want tinsel and tissue paper that it fails.
I'd be thinking wiring issue / ECU failure as well.
Might be awkward to diagnose, had they recently been through water or a car wash?
Graeme and shack raise good points.
May be worthwhile also pulling the transfer case module, and the engine ECU behind it and checking plugs for evidence of water or corrosion as well.
Water in this area has been known to generate lots of faults and prevent an engine starting. Worst case is the ECU has failed.
Here’s hoping it is something simple (like a bad earth).
Haven’t had a chance to get an update today - will check later on but I think it was towed to LR.
Was the closest place I think - there's no Indies down that way that would know LR's I don't think but there is an LR dealer. It's there now but they won't be looking at it for at least a week by the sounds of it.
